I am delighted to confirm that Rockpool Fishmongers has achieved an Award of Excellence – our highest level of recognition – for 2026/27. Congratulations!
Following Rockpool’s success as the overall National Federation of Fishmongers Fishmonger of the Year 2025, the judging panel was delighted to see another exceptionally strong entry from a business that continues to develop while remaining firmly focused on quality, skill and its customers. For a business established only in 2023, Rockpool has achieved a remarkable amount. Behind that young business sits an extraordinary depth of experience, including Paul’s nearly 50 years in the fish trade and Kevin’s background as a professional chef followed by almost 20 years in the fish industry. The judges felt that combination of traditional fishmongering knowledge and culinary expertise gives Rockpool a particular strength.
Product quality was another standout factor. Your emphasis on British and seasonal seafood, thoughtful sourcing and daily quality assessment demonstrated a business where the fish itself remains paramount. Your description of the counter needing to look “leaping, not sleeping” captured that philosophy perfectly. The panel also recognised the consistently high professional standards behind the business, including a 5 Food Hygiene Rating at every inspection since opening, alongside a very strong approach to customer service. Almost 100 five-star Google reviews provide compelling independent evidence that customers value what you do.
Perhaps Rockpool was summed up best by one sentence in your own entry: ‘I’m not trying to be different, I’m just trying to be really really good and valued by our customers.’ The judging panel felt that philosophy runs throughout the business. Rockpool demonstrates that excellence does not need gimmicks: exceptional seafood, genuine expertise, high standards and a relentless focus on the customer are still the foundations of a great fishmonger.
