Cooking leaf selection bags

These bags each contain around 5 portions of leafy greens, with mixes including cavolo nero, curly kale, chard, red Russian kale and spinach.

A variety of colours, textures and flavours but all delicious and so good for you - whether you choose to have a mix every time or use a variety or two with each meal.

We know not everyone munches their way through as many leafy greens as some of us here, so there’s a few reasons why these bags might be the choice for you:

They’re a great option if you’re looking to increase the diversity of plants in your diet. A mixed bag of leafy greens makes it easier to reach the 30 different plants a week we’re recommended to consume, with the growing understanding of the benefits for gut health and how our gut health has such a vast (and often surprising) impact on so many other areas of our wellbeing.

A smaller amount of each variety also means that if you’re a smaller household, you can still enjoy different leafy greens through the week without potential waste from buying each separately.

Or maybe you know you really should be eating your greens but still getting confident with how you best enjoy some leaves so a mix lets you work your way up to this and try different flavours without committing to a whole bag.

From this …. To this ! Wonderful delphiniums this year, tall as tall and a blue that glows ! They almost need a stately home of their own … luckily there is a very big vase in the shop and a wonderfully creative florist on our team … so we can enjoy the ‘just too big for a bouquet’ blooms in the shop .. along with this cheerful Tanecetum which has got enormous in the polytunnel. Possibly a bit too tall and ‘falley-over’ !!

https://greenerhenley.org.uk/pledge-for-the-planet/ Check out Greener Henley’s pledges for the planet ..A big part of reducing our individual impact on the planet is our food choices, choosing locally produced food means not only are you reducing carbon emissions you’re increasing the nutritional value of your food, supporting careful and environmentally sensitive, diverse farming practice and local wildlife ( no monoculture here !) and the money you spend stays within your community providing employment and volunteers. We’ve supported any number of neurodivergent people, people recovering from depression and people with learning difficulties and disabilities we’ve also trained many young people in the business and art of baking, growing and flower growing and arranging. So taking a pledge to eat locally produced veg has a much bigger impact than you might imagine! Have a read through their other fantastic pledges and then ACT ON THEM! Little by little we can change the world and maybe even save the planet before it’s just too late !
And thank you Greener Henley for recognising the importance of our little garden and the place it has in your community.

We think all of our leaves are beautiful as well as delicious, but chard is a bit special visually. Slice the stems and sauté or steam for a little longer than the leaves. Smaller leaves can be eaten raw in salads. Pairs well with cheese in tarts and pies or simply steamed or sautéed with garlic and olive oil. It’s absolutely delicious right now specially after the rain has plumped everything up !

Glorious early mornings … when the flowers are happy … but it’s too early for this heat and our spring sown crops for late summer or autumn harvest need a few, much cooler weeks to build their roots and greenery so they make good strong plants and don’t think it’s August or September just yet !

Good morning from a very hot Bosley Patch. In all the years I’ve been growing we’ve not had a season quite like this one ! But then again the last few years have all had their challenges ! We’ve a lot of peonies all racing into flower and it’s just too hot to put them into the shop, they really won’t like it ! I’m going to pop them all in our big chiller this morning and if you’d like some ( or one of your beautiful peony bouquets) please would you message or dm me. We can then arrange a pick up time .. on Tuesday or Wednesday once these all had a good long drink !
this crop is a big investment to us and not being able to sell it is a big hit to so please do let me know ! We’ve so many beautiful blooms coming … I know I’ve always joked about them not getting the memo about flowering in time for a weekend … this is a whole new thing !

Because the heat in the garden is just too much in the middle of the day I’m going to shift the baking a bit tomorrow .. I’m going to bake at around 10 so that I can get the garden jobs done between having enough light and the sun getting too strong .. I hope it coincides with everyone having a nice slow bank holiday Monday / and you can all pop by an hour or so later than usual ! And now I’m off to rescue my very hot modules which would have all been in the ground already had it not been too cold for the last 3 weeks ! What a season !!
