When Saheda from our Rochdale store heard that one of her older customers had been widowed she promised the customer's daughter that she'd look after her – and now she always supports her with her shopping.

The customer's daughter lives in London, so was worried about how her mum would cope on her own, so Saheda told her which days she works so the customer could time her visits knowing she'll be there. While she's in the store Saheda scans and packs her shopping, gets a chair for the customer, and makes the time to have a nice chat with her. The customer was so impressed that she told the store's customer manager Dave how much Saheda's kindness means to her. Dave said: "The lady told me that ever since she lost her husband three months ago, Saheda has been like a breath of fresh air in her life every time she shops– not just because of the help she offers, but as an emotional support and somebody to chat to."

Saheda said: "I used to see the lady come in with her husband all the time and then didn't see her for a while. Then I saw her shopping with her daughter, and they told me what had happened. I told her to come and see me every time she came in... and she does. We have a good chat and I help her, as she does struggle a bit.

"She thanks me every single time and I go, 'no, you don't need to thank me'. It's sweet, though. I like to think that somebody would do that for my own mum. I always think too that one day I could be in that position. It doesn't cost anything to be pleasant and kind, does it?"

When a blind customer called into our St Helens store looking for some new outfits to wear on holiday, Asda colleague Debbie immediately stepped in to help.

The customer told Debbie the sorts of things she wanted, so she took her to the George department, described various options for her and picked out a selection for the customer to choose from. The customer felt the materials, said which ones she liked the most, and chose five different outfits. Debbie said: "We had a really good chat and I spent quite some time with her making sure she was happy. She was so relieved that someone was looking after her. Helping people is just part of my job. The lady was extremely grateful and that was enough for me. Even her guide dog looked up at me as if to say thank you. I told the lady if she ever needed help in the future to just ask for me personally."

Debbie's been nominated for an Asda service superstar award, with ambient manager Linzi saying: "Debbie always gives great service, but this was going the extra mile. We are all very proud of her. She's very caring, she's like the mum of the store here!"

Today we're celebrating Katie and the amazing journey she's shared with us 💗

As a member of the Asda marketing team, Katie has spent the last 18 years helping share the life-saving messages behind Tickled Pink.

When she found a lump during a routine breast check, those same messages helped her recognise a change and get it checked.

After treatment, Katie returned to work earlier this year and continues to use her experience to support and inspire others by sharing her story.

We're so proud to call Katie part of the Asda family. ✨

A huge thank you to all our generous customers, colleagues and volunteers who've been supporting our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign throughout October.

Colleagues have been putting on their pink T-shirts, wigs and tutus as they tackle fundraising sponsored walks and dips in the chilly sea, dress up in 80s clothes, have fun afternoon teas, have their hair dyed, their heads and beards shaved... and even their legs waxed!

Community champion Michelle, from our Gosforth store, said: "A big thank you to all our customers and colleagues who have supported us. We've had a fun time but also given a serious shout out to check them b***s and pecs. Know your normal. If in doubt get checked out."

Tickled Pink is the partnership between Asda, Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! and this year we've been celebrating our 30th anniversary! That’s 30 years of reminding more people to check their b***s, pecs or chests and 30 years of helping more people find breast health information and support when they need it. We've raised more than £100 million over the last 30 years for world-class research, life-changing support and vital breast awareness information.

When home shopping driver Dan's van broke down two hours from the Swansea store and couldn't immediately be fixed he continued his deliveries on foot to make sure his customers still got their shopping.

Dan was delivering to the village of Cribyn near Lampeter when the automatic gears failed and the van couldn't move. Knowing it wouldn't be a quick fix, he decided to do everything he could to get customers' shopping to them. He said: "I was quite close to a customer's home so I got the trolley out and filled it with crates and took it to their house. The next one was on the other side of the village – about a 20-to-30-minute walk – so I again packed up the trolley and started walking. It was quite dark by then and there were no street lights on the final stretch so I had to use the torch on my phone. The customer was really grateful, a little bit dumbstruck that I'd walked with his shopping, but grateful. The area is very rural and there aren't many shops, that's why we deliver here. I wanted the customers to get their deliveries."

Store manager Andre, who's nominated Dan for an Asda service superstar award, said: "When I heard what Dan had done I immediately felt proud of his actions and wanted to ensure he got the recognition he deserved. That night he went out of his way and showed real determination to ensure his customers were not let down, delivering some on foot and waiting with his van for recovery which meant he didn't get back to store until the early hours. Dan's actions that evening shows what a great colleague he is and how is always willing to help his fellow colleagues and customers no matter the circumstances."

We had a real treat with our pipers Zak and Sam returning to help us celebrate 30 years of Asda Tickled Pink.

The boys played for a good 40 minutes and helped us raise over £175 for our charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!

Not only that, but they spread some warmth and cheer on a very wet and windy day, entertaining customers and colleagues both in the shop and those waiting in our foyer for the storm to pass!m

Here you can see the boys, and our store looking suitably spooky for Halloween!

Thank you Zak and Sam, and to all those people who donated today, particularly those who ventured out in the awful weather and those who even went back out to their cars or home to get some money!

25/10/2026

Community champion Sam from our Dundee Kirkton store is a passionate supporter of our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign and says awareness of self checking helped to save her life.

Sam was diagnosed with breast cancer after finding a lump during a regular ‘self-check’ in 2022. Following a lumpectomy, she had 16 rounds of chemotherapy followed by 20 sessions of radiotherapy, which came to an end in December 2023 – almost a year after she first found her lump.

She said: "Ever since I started as a community champion in 2014, a role which got me directly involved with the campaign every year, I did the checks like clockwork, once a month in the shower. I thought, ‘You can’t tell other people to check themselves if you’re not doing it yourself.’

She said having her own experience with breast cancer has supported her work with the Tickled Pink campaign, which marks 30 years this month: “With lived knowledge, people know I haven’t just read about this in a book and they tend to listen to what I’m saying. It’s emotional of course, but if I can encourage more people to check themselves regularly, then I’ll take that as a win.”

Sam is now working locally to encourage GP surgeries in Dundee to include information about self-checking as an add-on to regular smear tests, in a campaign she’s calling ‘Swipe and Squeeze’.

Tomorrow (Saturday 24th Oct) our ‘official’ pipers Zak (the tall one) and Sam (the wee one) are returning to Asda Bishopbriggs to help our fundraising efforts for 30 years of our Tickled Pink campaign for Breast Cancer.

Here they are back in the summer when they popped along to show support for Scotland’s 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 national side, and looking very smart in traditional dress too!

Please come along and see the boys from 1:30pm and support this fantastic cause that does so much for research and those affected by breast cancer. Even the smallest donations go straight to our charity partners, Breast Cancer Care and CoppaFeel! and straight to where it’s needed most.

Our amazing colleagues have been getting on their bikes for Tickled Pink! 💗

After two fantastic days of our Spin Bike Challenge, we're back for PART 3: THE FINAL PUSH! 🚴‍♂️🎀

We've been pedalling away in our store foyer, raising money to support Tickled Pink and its vital work supporting people affected by breast cancer.Today is our last chance to get those pedals turning, give our fundraising total one final boost and get closer to our target! Every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference. 💕

Here’s some pictures of the Bishopbriggs team, including our GSM Laura, taking on the challenge!

So, if you're shopping with us today, come and cheer us on, donate with cash or scan our QR code and give if you can.

Did you know that this area is a part of the country where people are less likely to check for the signs of Breast Cancer? You’ll find our ‘pledge to check’ board with its own QR code in the foyer too… so don’t forget to check your chest regularly make sure you ‘know your normal.’ We have cards at all checkouts that you can pick up with tips to help you out.

Today, tomorrow and Sunday, staff at Asda Bishopbriggs are taking on the spin bike challenge for Tickled Pink! Continuing our October focus on our charity campaign, colleagues are seeing how many miles we can rack up each day.

Last weekend, our fundraising stall made £200 in just two hours thanks to the generosity of our customers and local community. Can we beat it this weekend? And can we bike the equivalent distance from Bishopbriggs to Asda House in Leeds? That’s 226 miles! Come along and show your support with stickers, colouring and other goodies available. More pink-themed items to buy and even a £1 lucky dip too!

I was very privileged to present a £500 cheque from the Asda Foundation’s Better Together Fund to one of our local groups, FACT - Families of Auchinairn Coming Together.

The group are local to to Asda Bishopbriggs and help local people of all ages to get together, preventing social isolation and bringing much joy to our area with events for all ages, like today’s Macmillan Coffee Morning, complete with cake and lots of family fun!

My colleague Emma from Asda Robroyston joined us to donate some goods to the group, and we were even able to get a photo with a famous children’s TV character. Can you spot who it is? Many thanks to Gillian, Cathy, Hazel and Carol and all those who go above and beyond for FACT and our community.

What an amazing day for Sheena and the rest of the volunteers from East Dunbartonshire Foodbank are having here at Asda Bishopbriggs.

By lunchtime, one van full of customers’ donations had already been loaded, and still the contributions have kept on coming. It’s always a pleasure to have the team in store and we’re always blown away by the kindness, support generosity of our local community. In the pictures, you can see the very smiley Sheena giving out lists of suggested products to customers and the other ladies at the exit doors ready to receive the products. Thank you so much to everyone.

Colleagues have dressed in cool rainbow colours this week to beat the heatwave and celebrate Glasgow Pride. Our store is a rainbow of balloons too.

It has been an absolute pleasure to have the privilege of representing the store, community and the company with my fellow community champions for West of Scotland and two of our store manager Kevin (Coatbridge) and Gillian (Ayr). What a blast giving out flags and windmills to the wonderment of children and grown-ups alike!!
