When Saheda from our Rochdale store heard that one of her older customers had been widowed she promised the customer's daughter that she'd look after her – and now she always supports her with her shopping.

The customer's daughter lives in London, so was worried about how her mum would cope on her own, so Saheda told her which days she works so the customer could time her visits knowing she'll be there. While she's in the store Saheda scans and packs her shopping, gets a chair for the customer, and makes the time to have a nice chat with her. The customer was so impressed that she told the store's customer manager Dave how much Saheda's kindness means to her. Dave said: "The lady told me that ever since she lost her husband three months ago, Saheda has been like a breath of fresh air in her life every time she shops– not just because of the help she offers, but as an emotional support and somebody to chat to."

Saheda said: "I used to see the lady come in with her husband all the time and then didn't see her for a while. Then I saw her shopping with her daughter, and they told me what had happened. I told her to come and see me every time she came in... and she does. We have a good chat and I help her, as she does struggle a bit.

"She thanks me every single time and I go, 'no, you don't need to thank me'. It's sweet, though. I like to think that somebody would do that for my own mum. I always think too that one day I could be in that position. It doesn't cost anything to be pleasant and kind, does it?"

When a blind customer called into our St Helens store looking for some new outfits to wear on holiday, Asda colleague Debbie immediately stepped in to help.

The customer told Debbie the sorts of things she wanted, so she took her to the George department, described various options for her and picked out a selection for the customer to choose from. The customer felt the materials, said which ones she liked the most, and chose five different outfits. Debbie said: "We had a really good chat and I spent quite some time with her making sure she was happy. She was so relieved that someone was looking after her. Helping people is just part of my job. The lady was extremely grateful and that was enough for me. Even her guide dog looked up at me as if to say thank you. I told the lady if she ever needed help in the future to just ask for me personally."

Debbie's been nominated for an Asda service superstar award, with ambient manager Linzi saying: "Debbie always gives great service, but this was going the extra mile. We are all very proud of her. She's very caring, she's like the mum of the store here!"

Today we're celebrating Katie and the amazing journey she's shared with us 💗

As a member of the Asda marketing team, Katie has spent the last 18 years helping share the life-saving messages behind Tickled Pink.

When she found a lump during a routine breast check, those same messages helped her recognise a change and get it checked.

After treatment, Katie returned to work earlier this year and continues to use her experience to support and inspire others by sharing her story.

We're so proud to call Katie part of the Asda family. ✨

A huge thank you to all our generous customers, colleagues and volunteers who've been supporting our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign throughout October.

Colleagues have been putting on their pink T-shirts, wigs and tutus as they tackle fundraising sponsored walks and dips in the chilly sea, dress up in 80s clothes, have fun afternoon teas, have their hair dyed, their heads and beards shaved... and even their legs waxed!

Community champion Michelle, from our Gosforth store, said: "A big thank you to all our customers and colleagues who have supported us. We've had a fun time but also given a serious shout out to check them b***s and pecs. Know your normal. If in doubt get checked out."

Tickled Pink is the partnership between Asda, Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! and this year we've been celebrating our 30th anniversary! That’s 30 years of reminding more people to check their b***s, pecs or chests and 30 years of helping more people find breast health information and support when they need it. We've raised more than £100 million over the last 30 years for world-class research, life-changing support and vital breast awareness information.

When home shopping driver Dan's van broke down two hours from the Swansea store and couldn't immediately be fixed he continued his deliveries on foot to make sure his customers still got their shopping.

Dan was delivering to the village of Cribyn near Lampeter when the automatic gears failed and the van couldn't move. Knowing it wouldn't be a quick fix, he decided to do everything he could to get customers' shopping to them. He said: "I was quite close to a customer's home so I got the trolley out and filled it with crates and took it to their house. The next one was on the other side of the village – about a 20-to-30-minute walk – so I again packed up the trolley and started walking. It was quite dark by then and there were no street lights on the final stretch so I had to use the torch on my phone. The customer was really grateful, a little bit dumbstruck that I'd walked with his shopping, but grateful. The area is very rural and there aren't many shops, that's why we deliver here. I wanted the customers to get their deliveries."

Store manager Andre, who's nominated Dan for an Asda service superstar award, said: "When I heard what Dan had done I immediately felt proud of his actions and wanted to ensure he got the recognition he deserved. That night he went out of his way and showed real determination to ensure his customers were not let down, delivering some on foot and waiting with his van for recovery which meant he didn't get back to store until the early hours. Dan's actions that evening shows what a great colleague he is and how is always willing to help his fellow colleagues and customers no matter the circumstances."

Community champion Sam from our Dundee Kirkton store is a passionate supporter of our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign and says awareness of self checking helped to save her life.

Sam was diagnosed with breast cancer after finding a lump during a regular ‘self-check’ in 2022. Following a lumpectomy, she had 16 rounds of chemotherapy followed by 20 sessions of radiotherapy, which came to an end in December 2023 – almost a year after she first found her lump.

She said: "Ever since I started as a community champion in 2014, a role which got me directly involved with the campaign every year, I did the checks like clockwork, once a month in the shower. I thought, ‘You can’t tell other people to check themselves if you’re not doing it yourself.’

She said having her own experience with breast cancer has supported her work with the Tickled Pink campaign, which marks 30 years this month: “With lived knowledge, people know I haven’t just read about this in a book and they tend to listen to what I’m saying. It’s emotional of course, but if I can encourage more people to check themselves regularly, then I’ll take that as a win.”

Sam is now working locally to encourage GP surgeries in Dundee to include information about self-checking as an add-on to regular smear tests, in a campaign she’s calling ‘Swipe and Squeeze’.

Time to Check💃 Your 💃 Chest!💃
For Tickled Pink, we've got some new moves to groove to, and you don't need a dance floor. 🪩🍒

Today we had the pleasure of Tracy's company from Cosy Kingdom.

She popped along to the store to chat with customers about how the charity can offer supports and advice to the local community offering free advice on energy saving and reducing bills to dealing with financial issues. Tracy had a great response today from the customers and colleagues and quite a few follow up requests. Well worth the visit to the store today.

I recently joined in with Sally and volunteers from Seafield Environmental group to help with a litter pick at the beach.

Myself and fellow Fife community champion from Kirkcaldy store, Jean, joined the team to conduct a litter pick.

We have supported the local group for over four years and we can see the difference the regular litter picks are having. When they started back in 2004, Sally said they were gathering four tons of rubbish from the beach and surrounding area and now they are getting less than 12 bags at a single clean up. Such an improvement and a fantaastic achievement from the whole team and volunteers who support the Seafield Environmental group.

On the day we collected 8 bags of rubbish. Pictured is myself, Jean from Kirkclady store and some of the volunteers from Seafield Environmental group and local community. – Barbara, Asda community champion

We had the pleasure of inviting Linda from Fife Carer'sCentre into the store to hold an awareness day.

She chatted with customers about the supports they offer to the local community and also explaining how they define a carer. She chatted with customers and colleagues about they could help if they are a carer or know someone who is. It is a great chance to raise awareness for the group but ultimately also being able to signpost people to the correct support they need.

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Jill Rutherford into the store to hold a cash collection and information awareness day for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).

CRY is a charity close to Jill's heart, she sadly lost her nephew at the age of 15 to this condition. She has been raising awareness and working tirelessly to fundraise and educate the community of the risks to our young people between ages 14 and 35. The aim is to raise enough funds to get local screening for our young people which will help to minimise the risk and treat our young people with this condition.

Fellow community champions from Fife, Edinburgh and Dundee sand I supported the community team at the Royal Highland Show this year at Ingliston showground, Edinburgh.

Both myself and Kirkcaldy community champion Jean chatted to customers about the vital work community champions do in their areas along with raising awareness for our Breast Cancer charity Tickled Pink. We had a great time at the show engaging with all the customers. The staff at the stand were even presented with an award - Highly Recommended tent. A massive achievement for all the team there across the 5 days!!! Well done Pictured is myself and Jean.– Barbara, Asda community champion

The local safer communities team at Fife Council popped in to see me last week about possible working partnership.

We chatted about issues facing our local community and how we can support our customers. This week is Child Safety Week and we have displayed some posters for our customers and colleagues to educate them on what to look out for this summer. Very informative posters with warnings and further supports available alomg with dates of pop up stalls across Fife.
