Today is World Refill Day and it feels like a good moment to talk about why refilling is worth it.
Refilling isn't just about reducing waste (though it does that too). It's also one of the simplest ways to save money on your weekly shop. When you buy by weight, you take exactly what you need — no bulk packs sitting in the back of the cupboard, no paying for packaging you didn't ask for or food you won't use.
Less packaging also means less going to landfill. Single-use plastic is built into the design of most supermarket products. By refilling you avoid that entirely.
Not sure about a new ingredient or product? Buy a small amount first. No committing to a full packet of something that might sit untouched at the back of the cupboard.
And because you take only what you need, food waste drops too. No more half-used bags going stale, or throwing away more than you used.
There's also something that's harder to put a number on: when you shop this way, you're part of a different kind of system. One that's local, considered, and built around people and planet rather than convenience.
If you're inspired to refill - not just today but any day, we're open in Faringdon every Monday to Saturday 9:30am-4pm and Sundays 10am-3pm. You can also shop online at tribezerowaste.co.uk.
