Here at Springlands the inclement weather has meant that the focus has returned to the greenhouses with sowing and potting on.

A second sowing of Winter Squash Vegetable Spaghetti and potting on the second sowing of Pea ‘ Ne Plus Ultra’.

The radio helps while away the time, there are certainly worse ways to spend an afternoon…

We have added Climbing French Beans to our list of vegetable plants on the stall this morning…

This variety is called ‘Cobra’, we have have grown this particular French Bean for about six years here at Springlands and have been very pleased with both the reliability and the yield.

For those of you that may have been considering growing your own runner beans this year…

We have some home sown and grown plants of the Moonlight variety on the stall at the moment.

With the added bonus that you get lovely white flowers as a precursor to some rather delicious produce!

You don’t need much space, a few long canes fashioned into a wigwam style structure.

We are open from 8 til 4 today.

Here at Springlands our girls are very impressed with the new type of poultry drinker we are trialling…

In this hot weather the insulated design keeps the water cool and fresh, hens don’t like drinking warm water and may reduce their consumption if it gets too warm.

The water is dispensed into the cups as required, minimising waste and preventing contamination of the reservoir.

So the girls are happy and so are we!

Our hens are laying like crazy and we have a plentiful supply of eggs at the moment...

A light breeze bringing with it a most welcome breath of fresh air here at Springlands this morning.

For those of you that had some of our ‘Ne Plus Ultra’ pea plants here’s where we are with ours…

The tallest so far are just touching five foot high, the book says they can reach six foot so, given the conditions this year, quite happy with that.

Bank Holiday here at Springlands so we are all taking it a bit easier today…
