Hello everyone, it’s Charlotte Smith from the shop :)

I just want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who donated to my fundraising to help get me to Tanzania as part of my midwifery course or to anyone who showed support in anyway❤️

I had an amazing three weeks in Tanzania working at a regional hospital is Dar Es Salaam. I was able to witness lots of beautiful births and support many new mothers but equally experience some difficult cases. I’m thankful for all the midwives, doctors and medical students for taking me under their wings and showing me what midwifery care is like out in Tanzania. I have taken home lots of learning from the clinical placement and I will be forever grateful to have our NHS and the staff we have at home👶🏻

Whilst in Tanzania we were able to donate to the hospital through all the money we received from our family, friends and community. We donated supplies they were in great need of such as nappies, sanitary towels, soap, cotton wool, gloves and much more! We donated this to each ward we worked on (including a kettle for neonatal!) and then we were also able to create packs with the essentials in, to gift to women staying on postnatal ward :)👩🏽‍⚕️

When I wasn’t working at the hospital I was able to visit Zanzibar and do something trips including visiting the turtle aquarium, visiting prison island and swimming with wild dolphins🐬. I also did a weekend safari which was incredible🦁Lastly I got the opportunity to visit a local school and teach the the colours of the rainbow🌈

As many of you may be aware, I am soon off to pastures new (hopefully) and so, this is my last week at the store. My final shift is Saturday afternoon. It will be a strange feeling, walking out of the door for the last time, after all these years.
I've watched many of your children grow from tiny little tots, to teenagers, with boyfriends/girlfriends etc and I have to say the children in Layer,nearly all have very good manners and you should all be very proud.
I have got to know so many of you and see many of you as more than just customers, I feel as if I am leaving many friends behind and I just want to thank each and every one of you for making me so welcome in your beautiful little village. I hope I get the chance to say goodbye to you all in person, but if not.....THANK YOU AND GOODBYE. 🥰

We have some beautiful new products in the store today, including some gorgeous pork pies, scotch eggs, fruit pies, bacon, sausages, ham, strawberries and veg and some lovely new homemade cakes.
