With the clocks changing this weekend and distinctly cooler weather it’s time to move into proper autumn mode. Let’s look forward to retreating into the warmth of our homes and eating heartier meals - beans and lentils are perfect for warming soups and stews and we have a nice selection.

If you stock up for Hallowe’en visitors don’t forget our pick and mix favourites. No plastic wrapping (of course) but if you like you can gather a few together in cupcake cases for handing out. Dried apple rings make a great option too.

A lot of you will have been pondering the government’s advice to keep a stock of non-perishable food to hand in case of supply disruptions and power cuts.

We think this is actually really sensible and public-spirited because if there are temporary shortages it will reduce the amount of last minute panic buying leading to empty shelves and people going without.

We have a lot of things in FoodLoose that are on the list of recommended items and would like to suggest that a little bit of stocking up is a good idea! These are some of the things we’d keep in our emergency box:
