Community at Fratton Park

On Monday 18th May, Steve, Store Manager, and Gemma, Community Champion, had the pleasure of meeting Headteacher Miss Lewis and Finance Manager Miss Kenny at St George’s Beneficial Church of England Primary School.

We were proud to donate fresh fruit and vegetables to support pupils in accessing healthy, nutritious food while encouraging curiosity and positive habits around healthy eating. 🍎🥕

St George’s has a pupil premium rate of 65%, compared with the national average of 38%, highlighting the importance of continued community support and partnership.

We hope to see the school join our Fruit & Veg for Schools scheme this September and look forward to supporting them further through our Customer Vote for a Fruit & Veg Grant initiative.

Working together with our local schools and communities, we can help create healthier futures for children. 💚

Ark Ayrton are a part of our Fruit and Veg for Schools scheme.

They have received a grant to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, helping to provide nutritious snacks for pupils across the school. Their Year 6 students have also just completed a week of SATs, and to support them during this important time, we were pleased to provide breakfast each morning to help them start the day well.

The scheme has really supported the children to try new fruits and vegetables and the schools catering team have really tried to make it fun and engaging!

We want to improve the health of a generation by giving millions of children free fruit and vegetables.

As part of this focus, we are renaming our Stronger Starts Grants to Fruit and Veg Grants. This change will help us better support projects that provide nutritious food to children and young people.

The trolley has become a integral part of our Community support!

TESCO DONATION TROLLEY
POMPEY CENTRE

For quite some time we have noticed there are a lot of people who support us by putting a little something in our trolley each time they visit the store but the last time there was a slightly different surprise. As well as all the normal goodies there was about half a dozen carrier bags, each one with various things someone’s cat had turned their nose up.

Once more we need to thank Tesco and especially Gemma Morrison not only for continuing to allow us to have the trolley but also for the support she gives us. But the biggest thanks has to go to all those generous people who regularly and anonymously give us their support, we don’t know who you are but we have come to rely on you.

Together, we collected an incredible 281 Easter eggs!

These have already been shared during home visits and will continue to bring smiles at stay-and-play sessions throughout the Easter period.

It’s the 1st of April, and we’re excited to share that our charity book stall is now supporting Age UK Portsmouth for the next three months.

For over 80 years, Age UK Portsmouth has been caring for vulnerable and isolated older people in Portsmouth and the surrounding area, providing vital support and companionship.

We’re delighted to welcome Age UK Portsmouth to our charity book stall and look forward to supporting the incredible work they do 💛

Community Highlights – Every Little Helps 💙
It’s been a week of giving!

Last week I supported:

🍎 Ark Ayrton School – supporting pupils with fresh fruit & veg thanks to funding from Tesco, plus some extra chocolate treats for family hampers.

🥧 New Pompey Pies group – we donated pastry & sweet fillings to help bring people together for great food and even better conversations. Want to join? Email [email protected]

🎉 Eastney Community Centre – loved helping at the Spring Twirly’s event (and putting my waitress skills to use!).

🥚 More Easter eggs donated to Home-Start – thank you to everyone who’s contributed so far!

💛 Finished the week at the foodbank, donating Easter eggs and supporting an amazing team who helped provide 51 food parcels to those in need.
