Today is National Cheese Day - in other words, your permission slip to eat something properly delicious this weekend! 🧀

And, to give some love to one of our regular market heroes: Ty Caws - Cardiff’s Great British cheesemonger, bringing an unreal selection of British cheese.

You’ll find Tŷ Caws at all three of our markets this weekend:

🧀 Rhiwbina (Fri) 10–1
🧀 Roath (Sat) 9:30–1
🧀 Riverside (Sun) 10–2

Whether you grab a wedge for the fridge, a little treat for after dinner, or build a full-on grazing board, be sure to make a stop at Ty Caws this weekend!

NEW EVENT | MONDAY 11TH MAY | FREE TO JOIN

On Monday 11th May, Food Cardiff is hosting an event to share new insights from our 'Planet Card' pilot, and to collaboratively shape the next phase of the programme.

The Planet Card was a collaboration between Cardiff Farmers Markets, Food Cardiff, and a group of organic growers, social enterprises and community organisations.

It gave eligible card holders a value of up to £11 per week to switch their normal fruit and vegetables to organically produced versions, without being left out of pocket.

This event will focus on key findings from two evaluation reports: Cardiff University’s Planet Card evaluation report and Sustain: The Alliance For Better Food And Farming’s Bridging the Gap report 'How to fix the food system for everyone' - alongside reflections from delivery and practice. We’ll explore how the Planet Card has added value beyond just access to good, local food on wider social and environmental impacts.

Attendance is free - please sign up here!

April at the markets is when everything starts to feel alive again! The shift from winter comfort to fresh, bright meals you can throw together fast.

This month, build your shop around spring greens, fresh eggs, and whatever looks best on the day. A bag of greens + a dozen eggs + great bread is basically a week of meals: frittata, quick stir-fry, omelettes, pasta, warm salads - the lot.

One easy idea: sauté greens with garlic (or just butter and salt), crack in a couple of eggs, pop a lid on, top with some grated cheese, and serve with bread and butter.

Dinner in 10 minutes, and you’ve bought from independent producers like Onllwyn Eggs for eggs, Paul’s Organic Veg for for greens, Riverside Sourdough for bread, Ty Caws for cheese and Little Mill Natural Products for the pickles and chutneys that make simple meals taste special.

Find us at Rhiwbina, Roath and Riverside this weekend!

New data shared by Slow Food in the UK reveals that supermarkets now account for 96% of UK grocery sales.

That leaves just 4% in the hands of independent retailers - the butchers, bakers, growers and neighbourhood food businesses that have long been the backbone of our communities.

This is not just about changing shopping habits. It is about monopoly, food chain fragility, and the steady erosion of local food communities.

Every time you choose to shop at our weekly farmers markets, you are doing something powerful. You are backing local food, local livelihoods, and a more resilient future for South Wales.

So - thank you. By shopping with us, you are helping to support a network of more than 100 farmers, growers and producers - and keeping South Wales’ independent food community going.

Thinking of visiting us this weekend? You can find us:

In Rhiwbina on Good Friday: https://www.riversidemarket.org.uk/rhiwbina

In Roath on Saturday:
