If you’ve ever clicked on a single seafood post on here, the algorithm will no doubt have directed you to the incredible coordinated efforts of the today - spearheaded by and the true Moses of the seafood industry .

There is so much justification for hope and optimism in the industry - even with all the pressures coming from every angle. However, while we continue to work towards that future, we wanted to use today’s post to commemorate a fisherman who was defining to our path - Mr Graham Doswell.

Based out of Eastbourne, he was the most incredible soldier for the industry - fishing from his own boat while spending countless days, months and years to set up the landing facilities and the local CIC.

When a posh k**b turned up to his house with no knowledge of the fishing industry, he welcomed me into his home, introduced me to his wonderful family, fed me digestives alongside his slightly questionable home smoked haddock - all while spending hours guiding me as to what we could do in our endeavours.

Graham is sadly no longer with us. However, his absolute commitment to be the change he wanted to see lives on. No talk. Just do. Miss you, old boy. To the future you helped create.

19,000 miles of coastline and one of the richest fisheries in the world. We import 80% of the seafood we eat. Shall we try and change that - just by 1%? It would help if the wind turned the other direction!

Should we be eating cod? In the last 2 weeks, the have banged the gavel with their verdict. ‘No’.

The most frustrating observation from this verdict is not that we shouldn’t be eating cod. It’s the fact that it is yet another precedent of regulators abdicating their accountability to be the guardians of our fisheries AND our fishing industries.

Ultimately, the goal of fishermen and fisheries scientists should be absolutely aligned. BOTH want there to be more fish in the sea next year than there are right now. It’s far too easy to blame boats when they are not the ones determining what should be caught.

Therefore - and yet again - we are having to get out every fire hydrant to extinguish this ecological wild fire when we could have put it out when it was just a spark. Let’s hope the 40% quota slash will help. There are incredible precedents of recovery that should give some cause for optimism for these beautiful fish.

For now - as we have for the last 7 years - Pesky won’t have cod. Instead, we will have ALL the other white fish species caught in the UK that contribute to our goal of restoring fish stocks and marine environment. That’s why you’re with us. That’s why we love you x

Would probably have been best to post this at the beginning of the season rather than the end BUT with just a few weeks to go now on the Wild Welsh Prawns, we beseech you to try cooking and eating them whole.

The meat is sweet, the shell is thin, delicate and mineraly, while the head holds a firework of flavour. Just don’t eat the horn on the top of their heads as that could be rather spicy as it goes in and out of you.

Just pan fry with nothing but salted butter. Get a crisp on the skin and then gobble up straight away. Enjoy
