It would be terribly remiss of us, being British, not to mention the sizzling temperatures we’re experiencing right now in the UK!

Love it or loathe it, it looks like we’re in for a warm spell - so in the spirit of yet another British tradition, we may as well keep calm and carry on.

We have all the delicious produce you could wish for, whether it’s something to go on the barbecue or simply something to serve cold with a salad.

And, for bonus points, our shop is as cool as a cucumber! There are times we would love a purpose built, all-mod-cons shop… but in the warmer weather we really benefit from being within the thick, old stone walls of the former Mill Farm coal shed!

The Sunday ritual of posting our weekly roundup, is one which I’ve really been enjoying. “Is that going in the roundup?” has become a commonly asked question, and looking back on our week often reminds us all of moments which may otherwise have been forgotten.

That said, opening up the camera roll today proved only one thing… there hasn’t been much time for taking photos this week! We’ve been busy making sure the sheep are as happy as the warmer weather allows, and gradually getting them ready for shearing, which is on the horizon. And of course, we’ve been making burgers and sausages on repeat!

Thank you for all of your support leading up to this sunny bank holiday, you’ve been out in force and endlessly patient with us as we’ve tried to restock.

And, without further ado, here’s our weekly roundup.

1. Salad days
2. Breakfast time
3. Sausages!

It’s Bank Holiday weekend and it is set to be a scorcher! With that in mind, we know that lots of you will be firing up the barbecues and enjoying some of our signature Lincolnshire sausages, along with many other things.

This weekend, by popular demand, we’ve shaken things up a bit and the team have been hard at work providing you with something different! Alongside the classics, why not try some pork and apple sausages, or some Italian style (gluten free, with fennel and garlic)?

As always, all of our sausages are made traditionally, hand mixed and hand linked to ensure the most natural product on the market. We don’t use any flavourings, seasoning mixes, rusk, fillers or colour stabilisers! We make our own seasonings using dried herbs and spices, salt and some dried apple - and of course some delicious bread from Askers.

If you’d like to try them, be quick - these are small batches and only available while stocks last.

It’s not often we leave the village, let’s face it - much less, en masse! But if we’re going to do it, we like to make it truly special. And last night, we did just that.

Our wonderful Derek, a great friend and an honorary member of the Mill Farm family, has spent the last eight weeks doing something really incredible. He auditioned for, and was invited to sing as a bass in, “Men United in Song 2026” at Peterborough Cathedral.

All of the gentlemen performing last night were absolutely phenomenal - they were perfectly in sync and completely in harmony, and their combined sound within the amazing setting of the cathedral was just out of this world. And to have achieved something so magnificent in such a short space of time? Simply mindblowing.

But importantly, these men came together as a choir, bound by their association with something which will affect 1 in 8 men in the UK - prostate cancer.

Derek has incurable, stage 4 prostate cancer, along with a secondary cancer in his pelvis - also incurable. Thankfully, both are currently under control with the help of continuous, ongoing treatment and he is able to continue working and living a relatively normal and comfortable life. And, it seems, to turn his experience into something hugely positive and help to make a difference to others who may find themselves in the same position.

The event was held in support of the charity Prostate Cancer UK, and those involved have collectively raised over £12,000 so far, with more to come in. An incredible achievement!

It’s not too late to donate if you would like to - just follow this link:

We have shared Derek’s story with his kind permission, and would like to thank him, along with his fellow choristers, for a fantastic evening out.

If you’re lucky enough to be enjoying a slow Saturday, make a trip to Mill Farm part of it!

Shopping local and shopping small is the perfect way to incorporate your weekly chores into a relaxing weekend - everything you buy is prepared with time and care, there is a level of human interaction and conversation that you’ll never find in a supermarket or chain store, and you can buy exactly what you need without the confines of pre-packaged items.

A pot of coffee is my Saturday morning ritual, make a visit to the butchers part of yours.

You know that we’re always looking for ways to ring the changes, and for something different today - we have fresh, locally sourced goat meat now in stock!

Goat is a lean, delicious alternative to beef or lamb and it’s super versatile, lending itself to slow cooked dishes such as curries and casseroles; or, why not try slow-roasting a joint with herbs and root vegetables. It’s also great on the barbecue - chops, steaks and ribs all make a wonderful centrepiece.

Pop in soon - stocks are limited! - and we will be more than happy to find the cut that’s best for you.
