Today is National Honey Day, and to mark the occasion we’re sharing a first glimpse of Purple Blooms of Heather, a documentary about the beekeepers who follow the flowering heather into Britain’s hills each summer.

In anticipation you can pick up a jar of Wainwright’s distinctive heather honey in store now.

Full film coming soon.

Upton Cheyney Chilli Company has been growing chillies since 2008. What began as a rather unlikely experiment, with one polytunnel and very little experience of growing chillies, has grown into a thriving business producing a whole range of chilli sauces, made by hand on the farm just outside of Bath.

Pete recently paid them a visit to meet the people behind the bottles, find out how it all began and see what goes into making their sauces.

We’re fortunate to have local producers like Upton Cheyney, where people put that extra bit of care into everything they make. Getting to know them, hearing their stories and seeing the work first-hand is one of the real pleasures of choosing what goes on our shelves.

There’s real pleasure in seeing familiar places being cared for, and renovation seems to be in the air here. Just a few doors up from us the Rondo has been getting stuck into improvements of its own.

A place that brings people together for a shared experience, The Rondo is part of what makes Larkhall feel like Larkhall, and we’re pleased to see our neighbours putting time and effort into its next chapter.

Sam talks us through how to prepare stuffed lamb belly, a delicious way to make the most of a cheaper cut and reduce waste.

With a handful of herbs and wonderful hand-harvested salt from it’s packed full of flavour.

A little preparation goes a long way with this often overlooked cut.

Home-brewed b**r doesn’t come much more local than this.

Tucked away in Swainswick Valley, the small but ever popular Swainswick B**r Festival was a perfect way to spend one of the last days of summer.

Once again, we supplied the meat for the barbecue and spent the afternoon catching up with regular customers away from the shop.
