As I thought about next Tuesday's World Refill day (16th June) it occured to me that nobody talks about the downside of refills. Don't get me wrong, I love refills and exploring the wide variety we have in store. However these are a few of the negatives I've experienced whilst using a variety of products from Bio-D, Faith in Nature & Salt of the Earth.
1. The wide selection causes indecisiveness ... I empty my shower gel container, bring it in to refill and have to spend 10 minutes deciding what to have next. It all depends on my mood, time of year (coconut smells sooo good in summer) and whether I'm feeling creative and want to add my essential oils to a fragrance free base. Decisions, decisions.
2. FOMO - a new fragrance arrives and I want to try it out. Yet many products are concentrated, lasting for ages and I end up waiting weeks to make that switch.
3. Travel sizes - I used to like the specially designed separate travel products. Now I keep my old containers, (like my Sukin 100ml facial wash bottle with it's handy pump) to refill with shower gel for my toilet bag. I also use a clean roll-on deodorant bottle as a 'discreet' jewelry containers for a hotel room - no ones likely to touch your deodorant are they?!
4. Keeping containers of all different sizes - as I know they will prove useful. Spray bottles are great for general watering or applying homemade insect repellent to plants. And 5 Litre containers are ideal for storing 'grey' or rain water for the garden, and homemade screenwash for my car.
If you would like any empty containers to reuse or refill, do ask in store as we usually have a few 5L ones available.
