We hope you've had a great week, and are still enjoying the contents of your last box if you had one.

We have the usual changes in what's available to us, and variations in the prices, so if you've already placed an order be sure to check you're happy with any changes.

You can CLICK HERE -https://bakewellorganics.ooooby.org/
to see the contents of the boxes next week.

A few new items this week: honey from Staffordshire (both clear and set), and a few other items we haven't had in for a while (fennel, kohl rabi, purple sprouting broccoli).

Easter specials

Still here for this co-op and the next only. Hot cross buns from Authentic Bread (mini fig & honey 6s and the traditional 4s - order by tonight as we have to order a week in advance), together with Easter chocolate minis from Joy of Nutrition.

Bread orders by tonight

We can also supply bread from Paul's Organics in Melton Mowbray, which is distributed nationally. See their loaves in the Bread section: spelt sourdoughs in 400g and 800g, a beetroot sourdough 400g, wholewheat sourdough 800g and an 800g sechskorn yeasted loaf. However, we have to order the Paul's loaves by first thing this Thursday morning, so if you want to try them, you'll have to get them on your order by this evening!

We hope you are having a great week so far, and are still enjoying the contents of your last box, our last orders before Christmas are Thursday 17th December 🎄❤️🎄

We have the usual changes in what's available to us, and variations in the prices, so if you've already placed an order be sure to check you're happy with any changes.

Back in action after the first week off this year! Farmacy/Bakewell Organics operates on a fortnightly cycle, where the week in between delivery weeks is spent ordering the produce for the following week's co-op, updating the info on the website etc. Then all the preparation for the packing and distribution is done in the week of the delivery co-op.

Obviously a few Christmas-related products added this week (see our temporary Christmas Favourites section, for some mince pies and Christmas puds from The Authentic Bread Company, cranberries, chestnuts, horseradish, and a couple of mustards and relishes to go with Christmas dinners), as well as the usual seasonal produce.

Early ordering deadlines for the Authentic Bread Co and also for Paul's Bakery, so very limited numbers on the former, and orders need to be in by tonight for Paul's.

New system interface

First full cycle on the new Ooooby system, so we're all getting used to a slightly different layout.

As always, any problems, email us on [email protected].

Christmas & New Year co-op dates

Another three week gap over the Christmas and New Year, so the next co-op will be on January 8th. We'll be putting orders in for the produce for the 8th on Monday 29th, a day early because of the New Year holiday, so ordering for the next one should be live over the New Year.

Then back to the usual fortnightly schedule.

Starting to feel the winter season coming on, with seasonal things like chestnuts (for roasting and for turkey stuffing), horseradish (for making spicy sauces), sprouts (for practice Christmas dinners), and clementines.

New system interface

Ooooby have shifted their tech support to their new version,. so although we have postponed the change as long as possible to hopefully let them deal with any bugs, we will have to shift to it soon. They say it's optimised for mobile phone access, & apparently the majority of us access the site in that way.

Anyway, if you suddenly see the site looking different, that will be why. Hopefully it will be reasonably easy to adjust to.

As always, any problems, email us on [email protected].

Christmas & New Year co-op dates

Since if we stick to the current calendar we would be running a co-op on Christmas Day, the plan is to have two 3-week gaps instead of three 2-week gaps, to dodge the big days. Co-ops on:

November 27th (this one)

December 18th

January 8th

A few more apple varieties available from Apple Orchard this week:

Court of Wick

Sissons of Worksop

Cellini

Egremont russet

However the Victora plums sadly will not be available and only a reduced amount of the Katy's (we'll share out what there is between those who ordered them and not charge for them).

Last chance to add to your order tonight or tomorrow during the day. We'll be closing orders to prepare for the co-op tomorrow evening.

We hope you are having a great week so far, and are still enjoying the contents of your last box.

Grapefruits are back! After a lengthy period of unavailability to us, we have plain grapefruits in for this co-op. In other fruit changes, as kiwiberries disappear after a short seasonal availability, we have custard apples back. Still plenty of apple varieties to try, and we might be adding a couple more as the week goes on.

We've changed supplier for the pomegranates, after some proved inedible last time.

The fresh herbs are mostly finished now, apart from parsley.

Apple juice and butters

Sheffield Organic Growers have confirmed the first batch of the new season's apples have been pressed and bottled at a nearby farm, so their excellent apple juice should be available again this week.

As for butter, Calon Wen are expecting to be able to supply their salted and unsalted butter again from the end of this week, so should be fine for the coming co-op. Fingers crossed!

New stock has landed 🍆🥒🌶🥔🥕

We hope you are having a great week so far, and are still enjoying the contents of your last box.

We have the usual changes in what's available to us, and variations in the prices, so if you've already placed an order be sure to check you're happy with any changes.

The red cabbage has come on line fromPollybell Farm near Doncaster, which gives an autumnal feeling to the produce, and we are fully into the apple season.

We have some interesting new varieties on offer from Apple Cottage in South Yorkshire: Blenheim Orange is a dual purpose cooker or eater, Pig's Nose Pippin is an eater, and Bardsey "the sainted apple" is also an eater but apparently also makes great apple pies. Bardsey numbers are limited.

We still have the kiwiberries, greengages and cobnuts, so if you are interested, try these while they are available.

We're having another go at getting some of the Maracuja Red (an expensive variety of passion fruit, we believe), which we've been curious about for a while. We've tried before, though, & the supplier has let us down, on more than one occasion, so don't count on it until it's on your doorstep!

The verdelli and bianchetto lemons have proven unreliable and of indifferent quality, so we’ve switched to some standard lemons from Portugal, and both these and the Navel oranges are sold as blemished skin but should be fine inside, so that helps reduce the price a little. Both citrus and avocadoes are in short supply and pricey at the moment, and we are still unable to source organic grapefruits. We’ll get them back as soon as we can.

New bread

We’ve added the small 400g Farmers Crown loaf from Wye Bakehouse, made with a pre-ferment and baked potatoes.

Apple juice and butters

Sheffield Organic Growers are switching over to the new crop of apples, and so unfortunately won’t be supplying their excellent apple juice for this co-op. Should be back with juice from the new year’s crop for next time, fortunately.

As for butter, we still have no confirmation whether Calon Wen will be able to supply either salted or unsalted butter for this co-op. They say they are hoping to have some in “towards the end of next week”, but whether it will be in time for the co-op seems doubtful. As before, if not we will replace their salted butter with the equally good (but arguably less convenient for square butter dishes) Our Cow Molly butter.
