ITS AULTBEA MARKET DAY
THIS SATURDAY.

A choice of tea's,coffees and cakes inside and bacon or sausages babs and Burgers and Chips outside.

All the stallholders can't wait to see you all and have a lovely catch up.

A gentle reminder of the Aultbea Market Dates for this year. Also that the Aultbea Market for August is on Monday, the 3rd August NOT on the Saturday, due to the Flotilla needing the Hall that day. The Christmas Market is on December 5th. Please check up with me in regards to the Xmas market as we are already overbooked

So another 4 weeks until the next Aultbea Market in June, hopefully weather be lovely, and everyone is busy. The Aultbea Markets are still finding its feet, as we try and please everyone. We appreciate any feedback as we try to give the local community a big variety of stalls, and the chance to enjoy the pop up cafes. But the main thing is that we are supporting Aultbea Hall itself, and with the money raised, we have bought 8 new tables for use at events so far, and also now Market Flags which will promote the Markets even more. So if you have something you have created or made, and thinking about having a stall here, please get in touch and we will do our best to help you get on the road to selling locally.

Today's Aultbea Hall Market.

Here is a little more information about the place we are in for the Market.

A little history
Loch Ewe has been used for UK defence purposes since the 1890s.
Anti-submarine nets were laid across the mouth of the Loch in the early months of the Second World War. Known as HMS Helicon from June 1941, it soon became a refuelling base and assembly port for merchant ships which needed convoy es**rt, initially across the Atlantic and then, from February 1942, to the Arctic. You can find out much more about this fascinating part of our history at the Russian Arctic Convoy Museum in the village at Aultbea.

The building that is now Aultbea Hall is a ‘Romney’ building, a prefab steel structure developed from 1941 by the British military to provide an affordable, easy-to-assemble and large shelter. The design replaced a previous ‘Nissen hut’ which hadn’t stood up well to high winds. These now iconic arched structures served many purposes, accommodating stores – memories suggest our hall was the NAAFI – maybe a canteen, and were often used as dance halls and cinemas.

So why not join us all in a stunning building with so much history and enjoy our May's Market.
