Last month we traveled to Minas Gerais, Brazil, on what’s called an “origin trip” — going straight to the source to experience coffee production firsthand. We get to meet the people, their land, and their culture, in all its beauty and its challenges.
Roasting is just one small step the beans go through, right at the end, when they’re nearly ready to be consumed. There, we dove deep into everything that comes before it: preparing the land, growing, harvesting, washing, drying, quality control, logistics. Coffee moves through a huge chain, with a lot of great people behind it.
Bruno, who you see in the videos, is one of them. The Arara beans behind our Sítio Cafundó coffee are grown on his farm, where he welcomed us.
These trips are also how we get to see, up close, what choosing a sustainable and fair value chain actually means — not just as a principle, but in the people and places it touches.
Brazil is the third producing country we’ve visited, and with every trip, we keep learning more.
Big obrigado to Bruno and Timo from Petúnia Coffee!
