Persimmon Fuyu are in!
These bright orange fruits are a beloved late Fall comfort fruit!
It has a long history in Japan from the culinary world to art to religion. The significance of persimmons in Japanese culture is visible to this day. For example, Japanese farmers will deliberately leave a few solitary persimmons in the tree as 'guardians' and an offering to the gods to make sure the following season is bountiful. Many families still gather in the winter to prepare 「hoshigaki」or dried persimmons - what once was a vital winter food source is now a tradition passed down to younger children (who are mostly waiting to eat it! 😋)
