When I was young, living in Kitchener/Waterloo, every year at Christmas, my good friends mother would give myself and many others her Christmas pickles. Over the years I begged her to teach me but to no avail. One day many years later, a phone call from April Bauman, out of the blue, sealed my pickling fate...Mrs. Bauman had calle
d to ask me if I wanted to learn how to pickle! I jumped at the chance and quickly booked time off work, as I knew this opportunity was once in a life time. So off I went to learn how to pickle from the best pickler I knew, was this really happening?!? After sealing up my first jar, my love for pickling grew ten fold. I was hooked, in addition to eating pickles, but to making pickles as well! Fast forward 5 years later, I have taken that amazing recipe and skills, and began dreaming up a pickle empire that brings pickle joy to the masses, one jar at a time. After starting off with an extremely high standard of April Bauman's pickles to measure up to, I tweaked the recipe here and there to make it my own, and in addition to the Gherkins, I started to apply my skills to pickling other vegetables. Joining the Voth's Pickle family are : asparagus, green beans, pearl onions, wild ramps, garlic scapes, brussel sprouts, okra, hot peppers, and many more to come. With the support and encouragement of owners Greg Boggs and Maggie Rhul of The Ace restaurant on Roncesvalles Ave. in Toronto, and fellow staff, I have been able to do what I love and provide delicious house-made pickles for various cocktails and menu items as well.
