🌿 FLEW OUT THE DOOR! 🌿
Wow, you guys really hate fungus gnats and fruit flies just as much as I do! 😂 I’ve had so many people reaching out recently trying to grab Cape Sundews to get ahead of bug season.
The bad news? I am officially already SOLD OUT of capes! 🚫🌱
The good news? I still have some Butterworts (Pinguicula) available! While they are absolute cuties and will definitely munch on some of those pesky flies, I’ll be honest—they don’t quite hold a candle to the bug-catching power of a mature Cape Sundew.
This rush actually brings up a really cool point that most people aren't aware of: the carnivorous plant timeline. ⏳
Unlike your backyard veggie plants that sprout and explode into monsters in a few weeks, carnivorous plants play the long game. We are talking months, not weeks.
If you've ever wondered why it takes so long to restock, here is the breakdown of what it takes to grow a Cape Sundew (Drosera capensis) from seed to bug-slayer:
⏱️ The Cape Sundew Timeline
1. Germination (3–6 Weeks): Kept in consistently bright, warm conditions with moist soil, the seeds finally sprout into tiny, pin-sized green specks.
2. Seedling Stage (2–4 Months): Growth is slow and steady. This is when they finally start growing true carnivorous leaves and can be separated into individual pots.
3. Maturity (6–12 Months): Under ideal conditions, they finally reach adult size, start dominating the local gnat population, and begin producing their own beautiful flower stalks.
So, if you missed out on a Cape Sundew this time around, don't worry—the next generation is already in the works, they just need some time to bake! ( Were talking like fall time! )
In the meantime, grab a Butterwort to start your defense line. Message me to snag one before they fly away too! 🌸🦟
