Why not stop by the Wilding Acres table at the Algoma Farmers' Market and get some carrots that SHOW that they have an explosion of flavour, instead?

We had beautiful weather for this event- the squash family was hard to grow this year- many including ourselves noticed way more male flowers and fewer female flowers which will then turn into the fruit.

We didn't grow a giant pumpkin this season will have to grow one next year.

Finally had time to make Almond Crescents for our last market this Saturday- I know some customers were missing them.We'...

Finally had time to make Almond Crescents for our last market this Saturday- I know some customers were missing them.
We'll still have lots of veggies too- potatoes, carrots, peppers, tomatoes, cabbage and lots of squashes!

Prepping for the Fall Market being held at the Alzheimer's Society this afternoon(1-4) on Great Northern Rd( access and parking off Blake too).
Baking, crafts( inluding mitts and slippers) jams, antipasto and fall veggies will be at our tablesgiving which Chris will be manning- Susan will stay home to prep for our Thanksgiving Market this Saturday- last of the season.
Feel free to drop by this afternoon and check out the vendors.

A "giant" dog checking out the "giant" pumpkins last year- bring your doggie and family down to see this year's giant pumpkins(and biggest tomatoes, sunflowers and zucchini).
For this Saturday we'll be underee the big tent- we're open at 8:30 for those who want to get their choice of veggies and baking. The pumpkins should be there by 11 for the weigh off. See you there!!

With it now being officially fall thought we'd post some " fall" photos. The maple trees this year are brillantly coloured red and orange- wonder if the dry weather we've had this past month has encouraged the bright colours!

Hubby planted the sunflower seedlings for me this year- the "fluffy" ones are called Sungold. Both the sunflowers and sedum have busy bumblebees on them.

A reminder too that at the Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off this Saturday at Algoma Farmers' Market there will also be prizes for the biggest sunflower, heaviest tomato and zucchini. Plus the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library will have story time and craft at 10:30 for the little ones. The market will be under the "big" tent on Saturday to accomodate all the giant pumpkins,vendors and activities. Hope to see you there!

We always say we eat well at Wilding Acres- tonight's supper featured all our own veggies!

Diced onions and freeze dried celery leaves in the bread stuffing for the pork tenderloin( I'm surprised I haven't done this before as my mother often made this growing up in Thompson during the 1960's). Baked potato( this time Red Chieftain)- both Terry and I couldn't finish our potatoes- should have only baked one big one for the two of us- we'll use the leftovers tomorrow). Our first baked acorn squash of the season( used Fallen Leaves maple syrup). And I decided to make zucchini fritters as I had some leftover from prepping trays for the freeze dryer- they turned out great- light and fluffy- now I know the trick for that is baking powder( we'll see how the leftovers taste tomorrow). I looked up a recipe online and pretty well followed it- 4 cups of shredded zucchini( squeeze out extra moisture) , some diced onion add two eggs, I seasoned with a teaspoon of fellow vendor Jake's Makes it Easy Original spice mix , then mic 3/4 cup flour , 1 tsp baking powder and I added some grated Parmesan cheese- and fried up in olive oil and butter- they were very nice and fluffy and tasty. I'm hoping to be able to make these fritters in the winter using my freeze dried shredded zucchini.

Fresh corn on the cob, last pick
Red onion from the south field
Cukes, and red peppers from a prior year's cucumber relish

We eat well from the harvest. You can too after you drop by the market tomorrow!
