Plant Thought Thursday! Let's talk about watering! Plants can take the heat and wind if they stay well watered. Make sure to check your plants daily to see if they need water. How often you need to water changes based on the weather and how much sun and wind your plants are getting.
Here's some tips:
1. Make sure to check to make sure your plants are dry before watering. Sometimes plants can wilt in the heat even if their roots are wet. There are four ways to check if your plants are dry:
- soil is lighter in colour
- plants are wilting
- pot is light when you lift it
- soil is dry to the touch when you put your finger in the soil
2. If your soil is dry make sure to water thoroughly. Overwatering only occurs in these instances:
- soil is already wet when you water
- the pot doesn't have a drain hole
- plants are growing in soil that doesn't drain well
Pro Tip:
- if watering with a wand make sure the spray is pointing down at the soil as in this picture. With an arched spray the water will not pe*****te the soil as well and the plants will need more water quicker.
