🌿🐦 Feeding the wild birds has become one of my favorite parts of homestead life. What started as a simple bowl of seeds and nuts has turned into a daily relationship with nature.
The birds help my homestead in so many ways — they naturally control insects in the garden, help clean up pests, spread seeds, and bring life and balance to the land. Their songs in the morning remind me to slow down and appreciate the little things.
I love creating healthy mixes with nuts, seeds, berries, and fruit slices to give them extra energy, especially during nesting season and changing weather. Watching them visit each day feels like a small act of stewardship and connection with the world around me. 🐦✨🌱
Homesteading isn’t just about growing food — it’s about creating a space where all living things can thrive together.

It's so easy to grow microgreens! Some people use the jar method however I prefer to grow microgreens in a tray. I am currently growing broccoli microgreens and can't wait to eat them!😋🤤🌱

Benefits of broccoli microgreens

🥦High in Sulforaphane
This is the big one. Sulforaphane is a natural compound linked to:
Supporting the body’s detox pathways
Protecting cells from damage (antioxidant effects)
Broccoli microgreens can contain much higher levels of this compound than full-grown broccoli.

🥦Rich in vitamins and minerals
Even in small amounts, they provide:
Vitamin C (immune support)
Vitamin K (important for blood and bones)
Vitamin A (eye and skin health)

🥦Strong antioxidant content
Helps your body deal with oxidative stress (basically wear-and-tear at a cellular level)
May support long-term health when eaten regularly

🥦May support heart health
Compounds in broccoli microgreens are linked to helping maintain healthy cholesterol levels and blood vessels

🥦Easy to digest
+ nutrient absorption
Because they’re harvested young, nutrients are more bioavailable (your body can use them efficiently)

🥦Great for gut health
Contain fiber and plant compounds that support beneficial gut bacteria
