Organic Cotton Sprouting Bag - $10.00
The perfect way to sprout any seeds. These sprouting bags offer excellent air flow from top to bottom and make thorough rinsing so very quick and easy.
Before use, please be sure to wash and rinse thoroughly with a pure soap. (One without added scents, etc).
When sprouting in a jar, the air flow is limited. Often the sprouts near the lid dry out and the sprouts near and at the bottom do not get rinsed properly. Rinsing seeds and sprouts in a jar is quite time consuming and the ones at the bottom usually do not get rinsed very well at all, especially after a couple days of growing. Poor air flow and poor rinsing create the perfect conditions for bacteria to grow. With the sprouting bag, airflow is excellent from top to bottom and rinsing is quick and thorough.
To rinse the sprouts/seeds thoroughly from top to bottom, you simply place the top of the opened bag under your kitchen tap (shower mode is best) for about 30-60 seconds (depending upon the stage of growth). Allow water to flow into the bag (swishing the seeds/sprouts around by gently manipulating the contents of the bag with your hand from the outside of the bag, as the water flows through). This will achieve a very thorough rinsing.
When you are finished rinsing, hang the sprouting bag on a hook perhaps in the pantry or under your cupboard (with a bowl under to catch the drippings); or over your sink. (Not inside a kitchen cupboard or anywhere the airflow is limited and can become stagnant). Rinse twice per day, about every 12 hours. If your home is warmer than 24 degrees, you 'may' need to rinse or simply wet the seeds/sprouts mid day. It is important that your seeds/sprouts do not dry out during the process.
Once your seeds have grown to the desired size, be sure they have been hanging at least 4-5 hours after the last rinsing, before placing them in a covered bowl and stored in the refrigerator. If you wish to green your sprouts to add chlorophyll, place them in a clear glass lidded bowl, top with paper towel or cotton cloth to soak up any residual moisture...put upside down and expose to indirect sunlight or a bright light source for about 6-8 hours. If the towel is damp after greening, replace before storing in the fridge.
I personally soak the seeds in Berkey filtered water. I rinse my seeds and sprouts with tap water then after a thorough rinsing (1-2 minutes) and draining (3-5 minutes) I submerge the bag in a bowl of water to rinse away any residual tap water.
