Reminder, applications close this Friday!

We have already received some INCREDIBLE vendor applications from across Canada! We can't wait to share the line up with y'all. While we had high expectations, the vendor line up is honestly shaping up to be better than we ever imagined for the first year of this festival. Coffee lovers and even non coffee drinkers are sure to be excited! We sure are!

But for those who haven't sent in their apps yet, you still have till Friday before applications close and the selection committee starts doing its thing.

If you have any questions DM us or , or drop them below in the comments. The website also has tons of useful info.

We can't wait to start sharing all the fun things we have planned for this festival, and the little touches we've thought about to make it extra special and ensure it becomes a pillar of the coffee scene here in Ottawa and beyond.

Thanks to everyone for supporting the event and showing us so much love!

New beans!

This coffee is named after Hale Zukas, a legendary disability rights advocate, barrier breaker and general badass.

The sledgehammer icon for this coffee is representative of the movement Zukas started in which disability warriors would go out at night in Berkeley and create their own “curb cuts” on sidewalks. Curb cuts would eventually become the norm for cities around the world.

And we picked a unique and vibrant Parainema coffee from Audeli Vasquez and to honor Hale and his incredible legacy.

Parainema is known for bright, complex flavors often featuring citrus, tropical fruit, and tea-like notes. It gained in popularity after the varietal was used for the winning 2015 Cup of Excellence coffee.

It's now live on the website with a bunch more info on Hale and Audeli! We also recommend the short film HALE!

Today we celebrate Moms, the ones still with us and the ones we miss every day.

One of our favourite staples on our menu is Mary's Finest. A coffee we named after our roaster's mother in law, Mary.

A portion of every bag sold is donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.

To all the great moms, aunties, parents and pals out there that help inspire, protect, teach and love children, this one's for you.

No way! Don’t mow in May!

We are here to help you understand the importance of leaving your lawn as is, for the month of May.🐝

Your grass is getting greener and longer and you’re noticing the dandelions are blooming, and it looks like it’s time to get the lawnmower out. But take a better look - there are lots of living things that thrive on dandelions and other “weeds”.

Bees and other insects are depending on these dandelions and other plant food sources to feed and pollinate in spring and early summer. Try to think of these little yellow signs of spring, as flowers instead of weeds- keep them around.

Here are some ways to help:
* Plant native perennials 🌷that will flower during different times of the year.
* When you do mow, keep your grass longer by changing the height on lawn mower.
* Leave out the mulch (or at least a space without it), as bees like to nest in the ground and cannot properly do so in mulch.
* Say no to pesticides, and research and grow other plants that naturally repel pests.

We know a lawn covered in dandelions can be insightly to some, but by changing your perspective and understanding the importance of leaving your lawn alone for May, you are helping the bees thrive and nature flourish.

So this happened:

I pulled into a parking lot to grab a takeout order and there were four 25 (ish) year old guys were standing right in front of the accessible parking spot smoking. I motioned for them to move because I was about to park there and before I had even gotten out of my car one of them yelled “doesn’t look like you have a wheelchair?” Just based on how I looked sitting in the driver’s seat, he decided I didn’t belong there. That immediately set me off.

They moved, I parked, opened my door, and I said exactly what needed to be said. I told them you never get to judge someone’s body or their needs just by looking at them, especially not from a glance through a car window. Not all disabilities are visible. I did have a wheelchair for five years, I do use a cane, but that’s not even the point. Nobody owes you proof or an explanation.

One of them apologized pretty quickly and said he didn’t see the placard, and I told him we don’t drive around with it hanging, we put it up when we park, and even that is none of your business.

I was really upset, you could hear it in my voice, but I’m honestly glad it was me they said that to and not someone who wouldn’t have spoken up. Hopefully it made them think twice next time. Accessible spots aren’t optional and they’re not up for debate based on what someone “looks like.” Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not real.

**I may have phrased things slightly differently in the moment 😉… but they absolutely deserved it!**

Hopefully no one reading this would ever do that, but just in case, I thought I would post about it to make people aware of how unaware some people are.

Thanks for reading, Erin.

New beans! 🫘

This coffee is named after Jason Beckers, a composer and former guitarist.

In 1989, Becker joined David Lee Roth's solo band to work on his album, A Little Ain't Enough. While preparing, Becker began to feel a lack of movement in his left leg. He was soon diagnosed with ALS and given 3-5 years to live. He finished the recording using lighter gauge strings and techniques that helped him play with weakening hands.

His ALS gradually robbed him of his ability to play guitar, walk, and eventually speak. But more than 30 years after his diagnosis, he continues to release albums by composing with his eyes via a system his father developed.

This beautiful washed anaerobic Typica from Celia Portillo is the perfect coffee to evoke the good feelings of being out in nature, that parallels the title of the tribute album Jason Becker's friends made for him, titled Warmth in the Wilderness.

Thanks as always to our pals for connecting us to Celia and sharing her story.

One of our faves is back on the menu!

This coffee is named Sun & Life after the incredible Frida Kahlo, an iconic artist that created some of the most amazing magical realism paintings that ever existed. She also was an artist and person who experienced a life of incredible pain and medical trauma, all well captured through her art.

We wanted an incredible coffee to match her incredible spirit. Which is why we chose this natural Pacamara from Jesus 'Chungo' Galeas, which has big, juicy beans packed with rich vanilla notes and deep, funky chocolate vibes that you'll be dreaming about.

This coffee is unique and delicious and we hope you love it as much as we do!
