A big Thank You to all the lovely folks and gardening friends who popped by our Misty Hills stand during Saturday’s garage sale - so nice to meet some of our mystery Misty customers lol…. also thanks to those who dropped off pots and books…and welcome to new followers. This morning’s stroll in the garden was magical with everything covered in sparkly droplets. Pink rose of perfection is the second flush – cut roses back after blooming for second or third flush. Our favorite Zinnia this year is this creamy dusty pink watercolor dream. If you keep your Zinnia seeds, every year something new will emerge since the colors cross pollinate. The tall verbena is a must have – it just keeps on blooming till frost – then self seeds. Plant just one Sedum plant and in a couple of years it will be a gigantic low maintenance beautiful space filler. Quite a few Sedums in gallon pots out front. Our Echinacea Magnus is also bigger than ever this year… we love this native perennial loved by bees and birds, it is deer resistant and drought tolerant….will have more next year. Drop by anytime 30476 Berg – corner of Berg & Bell. Self Serve deposit box on the post.

Last wagon load of plants going out today at Misty Hills. Two varieties of door plants Wandering Dude under the sign. Time to think about seed collecting - one pot left of Zinnias and Salt Spring Marigolds – a nice long lasting planting combo – will each give you tons of seeds for next year. Several pots of Phlox to add a touch of white to your patch. White Cosmos still going strong also a good seed plant. Several pots of Tuscan Sun perennial sunflowers shown in photo with tall Verbena – both self seed in the garden. Long lasting Rudbeckia – Black eyed Susans shown with Geranium Rozanne - have a few pots not in bloom that will make a display next year. Our garden surprise of the year was a perennial Mullein flower that popped up from a seed mix we planted - yellow with fuzzy purple stamens - bees and butterflies love it - few pots available not in bloom yet. In the garden a couple shots of Echinacea, White Alyssum with white Snaps and the most amazing colored Salpiglosis – Kew Blue. In the book library – don’t worry about “take a book – leave a book” Please just TAKE some books and magazines lol. Lots of kids books. Drop by anytime 30476 Berg – corner of Berg & Bell. Self Serve deposit box on the post.

- Another wagonload of super easy care perennials out today at Misty Hills. Fabulous Phlox very unfussy, plant it anywhere– 3 colors - large hardy plants in gallon pots. Sweet William – just about to bloom – readily self seeds coming back year after year. Our first batch of mixed Hens “n Chicks so cute - totally winter hardy. Next week just in time for the Berg Ave Garage Sale our special Swiss Window Box Carnations will be ready to go out (gallon pots $8.) Loaded with buds.. if you missed the story last year these plants originally came from Switzerland in my mom’s purse many moons ago. After surviving all those Ontario winters – we brought them to BC and kept them going. These sold out quickly last year so come early for best selection. Had a few inquiries about our self serve deposit box on the post – this is a repurposed bird house with a slit in the roof for depositing coins or bills (see photo) It is a good system that keeps money safe and out of sight until we empty it each day. New batch of interesting magazines in the book library. Drop by anytime 30476 Berg – corner of Berg & Bell.

The little red plant wagon is out at Misty Hills. Good cooler week of weather for planting annuals and perennials. While everything else has gone up in price we still have most of our gallon pots @ $6. Small pots $3. Have numerous “rescue” Hydrangeas – just cut back the flowers and pop in the ground for a good sized plant in no time $6. On the wagon are sunflowers and super hardy Yarrow – while lots of plants died off from the bad frost this year Yarrow just got bigger – same with Heuchera even in pots outside never stopped performing. Delicate looking but hardy Lily of the valley – we keep it in pots to manage its spread. A few annuals in small pots – Nasturtiums - good in the garden for repelling bugs also edible flowers – Statice - papery blooms last all season then cut them for dried flower displays. More plants going out daily – limited quantities so pop by soon for best selection. Book Library is stuffed with good reading material. Drop by anytime 30476 Berg – corner of Berg & Bell. Self Serve deposit box on the post.
