Millbrook Mercantile July Cheese of the Month Club
With summer in full swing we wanted to offer two cheeses that love the hot weather, and pair great with some delicious summer w**es, and great food recipe recommendations.
The first cheese is one of our staff's favourite cheeses, and it is only around for a short time every summer. The Beemster Graskaas Gouda from Holland is a seasonal cheese made from the first spring milking of the dairy cows after they escape from the winter barns, and roam freely in the grasses. Eating up flower blossoms and dancing around in joy. Due to its very limited supply, we take great pride in offering this cheese exclusively to our Cheese Club Members.
The second cheese is heaven on earth, and one of the million reasons to visit Italy. One of our 3 favourite cheeses, fresh Burrata. Its creamy flavour and silky texture make this one of the worlds greatest gifts to mankind. This pairs wonderfully this with our home made garlic scape & basil pesto, and the marinated sundried tomatoes.
In addition to the staff’s cheese selections for this month, your cheese box will include our house made marinated sundried tomatoes (sundried tomatoes marinated in balsamic vinegar), house made garlic scape & basil pesto (local organic garlic scapes, local organic basil, extra virgin olive oil & pine nuts), a salted caramel chocolate & pita chip crackers.
Every month we bring in new and exciting white & red w**es that we feel would pair wonderfully with the cheeses our staff have selected. With this philosophy in mind, we have selected two unique w**es that pair perfectly with this month’s cheese selections.
The white is a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc called A+, from w**emaker Ant Moore of the Marlborough region. Pristine and brightly expressive, this enticing bouquet shows Granny Smith apple, grapefruit, fig, and kaffir lime notes. The palate delivers excellent weight and fruit intensity, wonderfully supported by fine texture and crisp acidity, finishing long and delectable. Score – 94
The red selection is big punchy Shiraz called Two In The Bush from w**emaker Bird In Hand Vineyards from South Australia’s Adelaide Hills. This 14.5% alcohol vino packs a punch. Vibrant deep red colour. Nose: Raspberry, Cranberry, Blackberry, Burnt Leaves, Wood Grain, Smoke. Palate: Full Bodied, smooth, forward tannin, long pepper finish. Score - 93
