Last week, Shavone Doherty cooked us a fabulous #Persianfeast. We enjoyed a fresh herb platter of feta cheese drizzled with toasted spices and olive oil, fresh veggies, herbs and flatbread. For dinner, an impressive #fesenjan (chicken stew with walnuts and pomegranates) and #saffronjeweledrice. The SHOWSTOPPER: the crispy bottom of the rice, which Shavone expertly flipped out of the pot. And a can't miss #rosewatercheesecake. It's not just about #cooking here at the #communityroom. The first Tuesday of every month, we have the dedicated ladies of #VictoriaQuilts here. They create bright and cheerful quilts for people battling cancer. The room buzzes with sewing machines and good chatter, and the coffee is on all day.
No, you're not dreaming. #ohyeswedid build a #steaksandwich this big. Just in time for #superbowl50. We roasted an entire strip loin steak until rare and sliced it thin. Then we packed the sandwich with a quick pickled veggie slaw, loads of caramelized onions and a creamy avocado spread.
We've got our #wellnessreset downstairs today! Our lovely instructor Shavone is sampling a nutrient packed kale salad. Our resident dietitian, Martha, is doling out a coconut mango smoothie as a sneak preview to our #basicsofsmartcooking class. And I've got a protein packed stir fry with #memoriesofszechwan sauce.

This morning, Martha and I packed up our kitchen equipment and headed out to Central Senior School for #careerday. Our aim was to present the career of chef (myself) and dietitian (Martha) to a group of grade 7 & 8 students. We were inundated with students, our little workshop space was crammed with 30 - 40 students each and every half hour (with that old school bell ringing in between!)
So much energy in room full of youth, and they are so excited about FOOD!
We even had a Toronto Chopped Champion (kids version) in the room. Amazing!
On this beautiful and foggy night of #Diwali, we hosted Aruna Sonegra at the cooking school. She cooked us a scrumptious and #glutenfree Indian feast! The people of the Kawarthas love Chef Aruna!

Tonight, Shavone Doherty made a delicious meal of drunken chicken, pasta with gin sauce, and some red wine poached pears. No, no, we weren't sauced, we cooked off all the alcohol. It was dinner and a book club, and if you have read The Girl on the Train, then you will understand the boozy theme. It was amazing. Every plate came back licked clean.
Tonight, Chef Chris Pires brought the bold flavours of Vegas to the cooking school. Classic wedge salad with blue cheese, beauty rib eye steaks, Parisien potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and a fabulous dessert.
