To our valued customers and friends - an important message regarding the Hamilton Farmers' Market:
As many of you know, the Hamilton Farmer’s Market is an incredibly important part of our business - while our family has always resided in Hagersville, the Market has been “home” for Jepson’s Fresh Meats since the 1930s. The Market’s vendors - us included - were grateful to the City of Hamilton for providing rent relief to vendors from April to September 2020. This allowed all vendors to pay just 25% of their monthly rent, offering some hope of recovery to small businesses during incredibly difficult times.
Now, this relief is being clawed back and the City of Hamilton is demanding vendors back-pay the other 75% for those six months - reaching totals that are devastating to many of the Market’s vendors. If the outstanding rent isn’t paid, many vendors will be forced to close their businesses, joining the 12+ stallholders that have already done so since the beginning of this year.
The Market is an essential service to many folks in downtown Hamilton and beyond. Please consider signing and sharing this petition and help save the Hamilton Farmers’ Market and its valuable vendors.
