Ok all you beef lovers, we're coming down to the wire. Iv'e contacted past customers, and other fans of Forestedge Farm beef, and many orders are out there. We have four animals left to sell, first come first served. Our price this year is $4.75 per pound on what they call rail weight. That is the carcass weight after slaughter, before it ages and is cut up. Some weight is lost in this process due to moisture loss, trimming, boning, etc. So in the end your paying around 6 bucks a pound for soup bones, but 6 bucks a pound for steak as well.
You can't think of it that way though, your getting prime, naturally raised beef in your freezer, ahead of the game. YES, if you watch sales, take cheaper cuts, hold your nose, etc; you can find cheaper beef. Costco can provide cheaper beef, We won't even pretend to compete. Costco (and others) often have sales at a loss, to get you in and fill that giant cart with other things. I sell wonderful tasting, and ethically raised beef.
Your best bet is to find friends, or family, willing to split a half; quarters are not an option. I know freezer space, and money-up-front is an issue, find some friendly options. If we learned anything from 2020 is that sometimes supplies can mysteriously dry up. This is a once a year occasion, I get so many calls from people that ask if we have beef for sale in July, the answer is always No. The timing is about herd size, feed availability, etc. Just like any other farming, there is planting and harvest; harvest is now.
