❤️For the love of planting ❤️

We've had so many rainy days lately and hail today. Our walkways are muddy, and the soil went down on wet ground. Some days, loving the ground and growing feels impossible.

But we keep going. We do what we can with what we have.

We're looking forward to those clearer, sunnier days that make fall planting a little easier but we're planting no matter what the weather brings.

Our garlic planting bulbs are selling off but we still have a small number ready tp go.There's still time to get garlic in the ground and we would love to share our bulbs with you.

Cracked garlic - Cracked culinary Music garlic cloves, ready to use straight from the bag. Perfect for everything from sauces and stir-fries to roasting and marinades.

Garlic Headneck Bulbs - Perfect for fall planting. Grown and selected right here on the West Coast of Newfoundland - we only pass on our best. Hardy, chemical-free, and ready to overwinter.

Elephant Garlic - Cracked Culinary 1/2lb - These hearty bulbs have a flavor all their own. A cross between garlic and a leek, with a mild onion taste and a gentle garlic finish. They're perfect for adding just a touch of both to any dish.

We're now selling fall garlic bulbs for planting, grown right here in Newfoundland without the use of chemical fertilizers. Whether you're a seasoned grower or trying garlic for the first time, we've got you covered.

Music variety planting bulbs — available by clove count: 5 cloves ($5.25), 4 cloves ($4.25), or 3 cloves ($3.25)

Cracked culinary garlic — perfect for eating, not planting: 1/2 lb bags of Music variety ($8) and 1/2 lb bags of elephant garlic ($10)

Planting tips:

This was an experimental crop for us, and we’re excited to share what we learned along the way! We’ll be enjoying these ourselves and passing the rest along to you.

We’ve learned that this particular type of Elephant Garlic isn’t the best choice for growing and multiplying, but don’t worry — we already have new seed bulbs ordered that we can’t wait to try! 🌱

In the meantime, this garlic is perfect for the kitchen. It has a delicious, mild garlic flavor with a hint of onion — great for cooking, roasting, sauces, and so much more.

🧄 **How to Plant Garlic — Three Sisters Style**

It's almost garlic planting season on the Rock, and fall is the perfect time to get your bulbs in the ground! Here's the simple step-by-step:

**1. Pick your spot**
Garlic loves full sun and well-drained soil. If your ground stays soggy, consider raised beds.

**2. Break apart the bulbs**
Separate the individual cloves right before planting — leave the papery skin on. Choose the biggest, healthiest cloves for the best bulbs next summer.

**3. Plant pointy-side up**
Push each clove **3–4 inches deep**, pointy end up. Space them about **4–6 inches apart** for maximum size.

**4. Mulch for winter**
Cover with **3–4 inches of straw or mulched leaves**. This protects the cloves through the freeze-thaw cycles and keeps the soil from heaving.

**5. Wait for spring**
Garlic grows slowly through the cold, then takes off in spring. Remove mulch in early spring. Harvest scapes when they curl and harvest bulbs a few weeks later when the lower leaves start to brown.

What's the difference between culinary and planting garlic?

Great question, and it's one we hear a lot! Here's the most important thing to know: any of our garlic is perfect for eating, including our planting bulbs. There's no "bad" garlic at Three Sisters.

So what actually sets our planting garlic apart? It all comes down to how we select it. Throughout the growing season, we're out in the field assessing every plant. We watch how each one grows, looking for the strongest, healthiest, most vigorous plants. When harvest time comes around, we set those standout plants aside. Those are the ones we save for planting.

We replant what we need for our own next season and share the rest with the public. That means when you buy planting bulbs from us, you're getting garlic from our best-performing stock, the plants that proved themselves in the field.
