Today I wrote a song for the people addiction leaves behind.

Not just for those who lost their battle.

But for the mothers who still reach for the phone.
The fathers who wonder what they could have done differently.
The sisters, brothers, children, friends and loved ones who carry an empty space that can never be filled.

We talk about addiction.
We talk about recovery.
We talk about overdose.

But we rarely talk about the people left standing in the silence afterward.

The ones who replay every conversation.
The ones who wonder if they missed a sign.
The ones who carry guilt, heartbreak, anger, love and loss all at the same time.

This song is for you.

And if you’ve lost someone to addiction, I hope you know this:

Their addiction was not their identity.

They were someone’s child.
Someone’s best friend.
Someone’s whole world.

They were loved.

OUR SHELVES ARE GETTING LOW AND WE NEED YOUR HELP

COMMUNITY ANGELS FOOD & HOUSING SUPPORT SOCIETY currently supports 800 seniors through our Seniors Program and we rely on the generosity of our community to help us continue providing essential food and supplies every month.

Many people don’t realize that our seniors receive much more than just a few food items. Every month those on our program receive

🍎 Fresh fruits and vegetables
🥫 Non-perishable food items
🥤 Ensure and Boost nutritional drinks
🩲 Pull-up pads and incontinence supplies when needed

All of this is provided FREE for an entire month as part of their program.

This program does more than put food on the table. It helps seniors stay healthy, maintain their independence and remain in their own homes. Good nutrition and proper support help prevent hospital visits and improve quality of life for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Today, our shelves are getting low, and we urgently need:

🥫 Canned meat
🍑 Canned fruit
🥣 Cereal
🍘 Crackers
🥜 Peanut butter
🧃 Juice

There is a pain that many parents carry silently.

It isn’t the pain of losing a child to death. It’s the pain of losing them while they’re still alive.

Days turn into months. Months turn into years. Five years. Ten years. Fifteen years.

You replay every conversation, every mistake, every memory, wondering what happened and whether there was something you could have done differently.

You would sit in a therapist’s office for hours and simply listen if it meant understanding their hurt. You would apologize for things you didn’t even know you had done if it meant having a relationship again. You would move mountains just to hear their voice.

But the phone doesn’t ring.

The messages go unanswered.

The door stays closed.

And yet, the love never leaves.

You miss birthdays. Holidays. Grandchildren you’ve never met. The little moments that other families take for granted.

Still, every morning, you wake up loving them.

Every night, you pray for them.

And somewhere deep inside, you hold onto hope that before God calls you home, you might hear their voice again.

I wrote this song called “The Sound of Your Voice” for every parent carrying this silent heartbreak.

Love doesn’t stop just because the conversation did.
