Well this chapter has been drawn to a close. Our ginger is out of the ground and this video shows the last steps, with a couple of cameos from Boo and Spencer. The bits a pieces of this video were recorded a little while ago. I can tell you that the next generation has been planted in the nursery bed. We are already on to the next year. Thank you for coming along on this first experiment.

Well this is exciting! We get to do two really great things at the same time this past week. In addition to the new things referred to in our last post we have decided to use a lot of the unused spaces on our property for fruit trees. We are experimenting with positions and types of trees. We are even considering that if a tree does really well, at producing fruit, we might plant a bunch of that type of tree. So what are the two things? Well we are expecting fruit in the next few years. That is number one. Number two: we are taking control of offsetting our own carbon footprint. We are eco friendly and proud of it. Here are some newly planted trees. Facebook seems to mix photos up when you upload them together but hopefully you can make the connection between the trees and the identification tags. In the order I posted them we have planted a Dwarf Lemon; a lime - you can just see a small young fruit; a Shepherd Avocado; a Lamb Hass (not to be confused with the formely loved Payne Haas - if you know, you know); a pomegranate; and just yesterday a Black Genoa Fig - found on the Bunnings reject shelf - it is just centremetres tall, but could grow up to 5 metres (16.5 feet) if it survives. And last but not least we add a photo to show that yesterday we picked our third crop of early stage Kumquat marmalade. Kumquat is currently in the lead to get a multiple planting.

Spring is coming, it is just around the corner. We are getting ready. Here are a few photos of our new garden, new tanks and new chicks. In one way or another this has been our focus over winter. This will become a new video but we just wanted to give you a quick glimpse of the transformation of one of the sunniest spots on our property that was just going to waste. We also turned an old BBQ into a herb garden, or erb garden for North American and UK visitors.

With winter now well and truly upon us Roland remembers, as the stock of firewood gets low, that to have well prepared firewood for next year he needs to get it now. He heads to the back of the property to find a suitable tree.

This is a Roland post.
Our tractor has a lot of fun bits: backhoe, post hole digger, slasher, grader, front end loader, and fork lift. We have a very small shed. I have been avoiding for a long time trying to work out how to get them in the shed. The "bits" have been stored under a tarp, you can see that in one of the photos. This morning I made the decission that they cannot stay there any longer. I did some Tetris work and I am getting them into the shed. I still have some bits to go but I am feeling a bit proud of myself for what I have achieved so far.

Even though winter here is usually dry when it looks like this it feels cold. So it kind of helps create a sense that it is really winter. It was 16c-19c (61f-66f)
