Every Sat we gather in the historic North Eveleigh Blacksmith’s Workshop 🛠️
Built in 1907, the workshop was intentionally sited away from the main Carriage Workshop to reduce dust and minimise the risk of fire. Inside, blacksmiths, furnacemen, tool and pattern makers and other skilled tradespeople cast and forged components, carried out repairs and made the parts used to build passenger carriages in the workshops next door.
The North Eveleigh workshops closed in 1987 and, in 2008, the Blacksmith’s Workshop was restored by the Redfern-Waterloo Authority - the same year Carriageworks Farmers Market began.
Next time you visit, take a moment to look around and imagine what once filled this space.
