Multi-award winning dairy products made using milk from 4 local Maleny farms
(687)

Maleny Cheese is a family run business established in April 2004. We began during the time of dairy deregulation in this area and now we have taken on milk supply from 4 Maleny farms. We make a few ranges of cheeses including Soft Cheeses, Club Cheddars and Feta Cheeses. For something different we have a few products made from pure Maleny Buffalo Milk. Maleny Gourmet Yoghurt is a greek-style yoghurt that we make. This is presented with fruit on the bottom to stir through and there are over 8 varieties to choose from in 4 sizes. It is multi award winning at local, state and national levels. We are passionate about the dairy industry, especially here in our area of South East QLD. You can find more info about us on our website: www.malenycheese.com.au

What has Switzerland reinforced for us about food travel?

The most memorable experiences are rarely just about what you taste. They are about meeting the people behind the product, seeing the craft firsthand, understanding the traditions, travelling through the landscape and, importantly, giving yourself time to enjoy it.

Our recent journey through Switzerland took us from Appenzeller cheese and an alpine cattle descent to Gruyère, Swiss chocolate, lake boats and mountain railways. Each experience offered a deeper connection to the food, the place and the people who bring it to life.

It’s a wonderful reminder of what makes food travel so special — and something we’re excited to bring home to Queensland.

At Maleny Cheese, we’re lucky to be part of a region where great food, beautiful landscapes, passionate producers and a strong sense of place come together.

Switzerland has certainly given us plenty of inspiration for the next chapter of our own food journey.

Our final day in Lucerne started with a delicious Swiss croissant before heading out to explore this beautiful city.

We began at the Lion Monument, a moving tribute to the Swiss Guards who lost their lives during the French Revolution.

From there, we walked part of the 870-metre-long Musegg Wall, the longest surviving medieval city wall in Switzerland, with beautiful views across Lucerne and Lake Lucerne.

We finished our day on the iconic Chapel Bridge, one of Europe’s oldest covered wooden bridges, crossing the River Reuss in the heart of the city.

Beautiful weather, incredible history and another wonderful day exploring Switzerland. What a beautiful place to visit.

There is something different about tasting Gruyère in Gruyère country.

Today we visited La Maison du Gruyère to see where the cheese is made and matured, before exploring the beautiful village of Gruyères. Seeing the production first gives you a much greater appreciation of how much knowledge, care and patience sit behind a cheese we all recognise.

It is a simple reminder that time really is one of the ingredients.

From the dairy, we followed the story into the village itself, where the landscape, history, food and cheese all come together. And, of course, there was lunch.

Then it was on to Maison Cailler in Broc, where the story continued from cheese to chocolate. The experience was a great reminder that great food is about much more than the finished product. Behind every taste are ingredients, technique, tradition, people and a strong sense of place.

Cheese in the morning and chocolate in the afternoon is a fairly good way to spend a day in Switzerland.

For us at Maleny Cheese, visiting places like La Maison du Gruyère and Maison Cailler is a chance to compare notes, learn and appreciate the universal things food producers care about: good ingredients, good technique, tradition and patience.

A day of tasting, learning and appreciating the stories behind some of Switzerland’s most iconic foods.
