Traditionally koalas weren't viewed as a food source for most First Nations except in parts of Queensland where they were hunted for food and typically cooked over open fires. Because a koala's diet consists almost exclusively of eucalyptus leaves (they eat on average half a kilogram per day), its meat carried a strong eucalyptus odour and taste.

Generally the hunting and eating of koalas was forbidden due to their spiritual significance, protection over consumption was encouraged.

We are committed to contributing to the protection of our unique amazing wildlife and have just fostered Duncan the joey who requires months of specialised care, nutritious eucalyptus leaves, veterinary treatment, medication, health monitoring, and the support of experienced wildlife carers before he can be safely released.

Don't let their future be stuffed!
