๐Ÿซ› BROAD BEANS ARE ON๐Ÿซ›

These green gems are more than just delicious โ€” broad beans are packed with plant-based protein, fibre, folate and iron, making them a nutritious addition to your seasonal kitchen.

๐ŸŒฑ How to enjoy them:

โ€ข Toss into fresh salads with lemon, olive oil and feta
โ€ข Smash onto sourdough toast with garlic and herbs
โ€ข Stir through risottos, pastas or spring vegetable dishes
โ€ข Add to frittatas, quiches or soups
โ€ข Blend into a vibrant broad bean dip with mint, lemon and olive oil

Young beans can be enjoyed whole when tender, while larger beans are delicious podded and lightly cooked. For an extra-silky texture, slip off the outer skins after blanching.

Grab yours at the markets this afternoon! Rain, hail or shine โœจ

No food security without water security! Come along tonight to the Red Door Hall to chat all things water in the Eurobodalla. In a state wide study, Eurobodalla was found to have the lowest number of PFAS thanks to our beautiful river systems and catchment areas. That's something worth celebrating ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ Don't forget - Thursday night is movie night!
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Yep, our sustainability team have another movie screening and panel discussion at Moruya's Red Door Hall tomorrow night from 6-9pm.
๐Ÿž๏ธ This time it's all about water with a screening of Dam to Tap (filmed right here in Eurobodalla) plus some excerpts from a stunning doco that looks at some of the country's most magnificent rivers - from both the Indigenous and European perspectives.
๐Ÿซ— Our panellists will nut out the practical details of water operations in Eurobodalla - our land of many waters.

Support growers, grow your own, share food, save seeds, plant flowers ๐ŸŒท

We grabbed some pretty local, and pretty cheap (free) seeds from The Seed (and bean) Queen herself at the SAGE Food Share today. Thank you Lindsay for being so generous with your knowledge, seeds, time and energy.

Today was all about beans! Some exclaimed they didn't know this many types of beans existed; we came home with Gilbert Golds, Greek Climbing beans, Painted Lady's, Jade Green bush beans, Mendoza bush Romarros, Main Yelle eyes, and the Madagascar Lima bean donned "The Future Proofer" a perennial bean that goes really well here in Moruya ๐Ÿซ˜ some are bush beans, some are climbers, some are annuals and others perennials, some you eat fresh and some you let dry on the vine to add to soups and casseroles. We also came home with dill, kale, turmeric, basil seedlings, leeks, chives and sorrell ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€ Such a joy to share and be inspired by others and what they grow, harvest and eat.

We also spoke about harvesting and saving water at home ๐Ÿ’ฆ as we listened to the rain pitter pattering around us. It surely was an inspiring morning and we went home and played in the garden, planting our seeds and taking advantage of the soft wet ground.

The next food share will be on the last Sunday of October at The SAGE Gardens. We want to thank Andy from the Nourished Sovereign for hosting alongside us in the park for the last wee while. Follow along Andy's page to keep up to date on where he will be slinging beverages and when. Octobers Food Share will focus on trellising and seed saving!

The next SAGE Food and Knowledge Share will be all about beans. Please bring any extra beans you can spare from home or want to trade for another variety, making sure they are well labeled. We will pool beans of each variety, then redistribute them amongst the group. This will help strengthen their genetics, and be a chance to see how many varieties are grown in the community. Extra seed envelopes and plastic seed bags will be welcome, along with a sharpie or two, thank you!

We will also have a discussion about household water saving so we may live more conscientiously through our current drought.

The SAGE Food & Knowledge Share is switching to a discussion style format for the winter months and will be held the last Sunday of the month May through November from 10 am at Riverside Park in Moruya. Please bring a blanket or camp chair for your comfort. If it is raining we will move undercover to SAGE Garden at 110 Queen St in Moruya. Everyone is welcome, and you do not need to bring anything. People who can bring items to share can contribute vegetables, fruits, eggs, seedlings/seeds, cookbooks, gardening books, tools, preserves and plants. We will resume the weekly guest speaker beginning February 2027.
