Dunc's Honey

The Bee Swarms this season have be far less than in previous years, this being due to Varroa wiping out all the feral (wild bees) in the bush, but here we have a nice easy one that’s walking into its new home.

I love calm Bees!

I’ve spent years breeding and I don’t always get it right, particularly with Varroa, which has made me go back to the drawing board. That said, the three traits I aim for (no particular order) are hygienic behaviours, honey production & nice gentle Bees.

What, doesn’t everyone have a swarm of Bees on the back seat?

With Spring brings Varroa mite build up. Check this out, Drone Brood fully loaded with them.

To compound the problem we, meaning Australia is now facing a new ‘Super mite’ incursion which means it is already resistant to treatments only approved 18 months ago.

What is the future of this Hive?

Here’s a different spin on how important our Bees are to the human race, being World Bee Day today, I received feedback regarding a recent scientific experiment assessing the efficacy of honey, specifically Dunc's Honey, against E. coli.

Result: Dunc's Honey 1, E. coli 0
