Neighbours is a gathering place. Families, cyclists stopping by after their ride, people discovering us for the first time and regulars returning, conversations filling the room, the energy unmistakeable. This is what happens when a space is built with connection at its heart.

Angelle and Daniel built this intentionally. Not just a café, but a place where people gather around a table with good food at the centre of it all. They learned this in Paris, and they’re deepening it here in McLaren Vale. A gathering place is built first by hands, then shaped by community who comes to enjoy it.

You’re shaping it right now. With every return visit. Every friend you bring. Every family gathering or reason for celebration. You’re not just using the space, you’re part of what makes this space feel alive.

Make Neighbours part of your Saturday ritual. ☕

We’re excited to share that as of this weekend, we will be adding Saturdays into the mix. So gather your favourite people and come join us for celebratory crumpets, coffee and cake.

We’ll be open Saturday 8am-2pm. Kitchen closes 1:30pm.

Since opening, we’ve been met with such generosity. Familiar faces from our market days finding us again, people travelling to be here, families and locals making this their space. Your support has been everything.

This weekend, there’s more to discover. Beyond the butter and jam, we’ve created two savoury crumpets. One with scrambled eggs, house-made chutney and parsley oil, and secondly with butter bean purée, mushrooms and poached egg. Each one built with the same intention and care as everything else.

You take a bite and suddenly, you know what 72 hours of precision, craft and care taste like.

The crumpets may be presented simply on a plate. But there is so much depth in that simplicity. From the butter we’ve cultured ourselves to everything that sits alongside it, each element chosen to build flavour, not just sit on top. Everything serves a purpose.

The plate arrives at your table. The cultured butter melts into all the nooks as you spread it on the crumpet. And suddenly all the work converges. The slow fermentation, the hands at work, the toppings we’ve crafted in house, in one single bite.

Golden. Textured. Worth the wait. Here’s what happens in the 3 days before your crumpets arrive on your plate.

The dough is mixed and then ferments for 72 hours at a constant temperature. This fermentation is everything. It’s what creates the flavour, the digestibility, the nooks that hold butter and jam. Bubbles forming beneath the surface. Time does the work here. Precision ensures it happens right.

What follows is pure craft. It’s Angelle’s hands that know when to pour, when to flip, when to take them off the heat. The kind of rhythm that comes from years of knowing what you’re making, understanding the shifts in colour, feel, sound, and smell that tell you everything. Precision that looks like intuition.

The cooling rack holds them. 3 days of craft, stacked and ready for the toppings that come next.

The crumpets are finally here! 🙌

For those who’ve been with us since our Paris days and market mornings, you’ll understand what this means to us. This is where it all comes together.

Fermented for 72 hours, with a recipe we developed in Paris, crafted slowly with care. You’ll find them served with house-made cultured butter and jam or local honey. To sit and enjoy, or to take a six pack home and savour with the people closest to you.

We’ve missed making them for you. Now they’re ready and waiting.

To everyone that has stopped by so far, thank you. 🤍

Watching this space come to life through the people who walk through the door has been wonderful. Every familiar face, every new one, every coffee shared, it means more than we can say.

We’re settling into our new space, and we love that you’re here for it. The space will keep evolving, the menu will grow with the seasons, and the sourdough crumpets, slow crafted as always (along with the much loved take home packs) are very close now.

This is just the beginning, and we’re so glad you’re part of it.

Neighbours. It’s more than a name.

When we chose it for our café in Paris, it spoke to the heart of what we were trying to create. Something grounded. A place built around regulars and familiarity, where good food and coffee bring people together.

Caring deeply about how things are made. Not cutting corners on what matters. Making things from scratch. That’s what we’ve carried with us from Paris, to our farmers market tent, and now into something more permanent in McLaren Vale.

Shaped by everything we’ve learned, everywhere we’ve been, and the people we’ve met along the way. A place that starts to feel familiar. Somewhere that quietly becomes part of your routine.

The coffee is pouring. The crumpets are almost ready to share with you again.

Before the very first coffee is served, there’s a lot of work nobody sees.

Every space is different. A new kitchen, a new environment.

We’ve spent time dialling in the grind. Adjusting the extraction. Getting the water temperature just right, until the balance is exactly where it needs to be. The kind of unhurried work most people never see but always taste.

We’ve opened cafés before, and we know the details matter. At Neighbours, every element has been considered.

Now we’re ready for you to taste the coffee. Stay a while, or take a cup to go while our kitchen finds its rhythm.

McLaren Vale is the kind of place that draws you in. Where the seasons shape everything, the landscape rolls slowly, and care goes into everything that’s grown and made here. That’s exactly where Neighbours belongs.

You may recognise the space, but this is something new. We haven’t just moved in, we’ve rebuilt it from the ground up into something that feels entirely ours.
