Brie-k neck speed. Racing to the Island this weekend? Pull over and slow down for a coffee and a proper cheese platter. The bikes will still be going round in circles when you get there.

Pit stop: Bassine. Fuel up on coffee and toasties before you hit Phillip Island. Our pit crew is faster than most tyre changes, and much better with cheese.

A very big thank you to Tone Petersen, our cheesemaker. 🧀

Tone has turned our milk into every wheel on our counter: the Bassine Queen brie, the Kilcunda, the Peppato, and all the rest. Plenty of you have watched him at work through the café windows, and you'll know the care that goes into every batch.

With the end of milking on the farm, Tone finishes up with us in November. We're going to miss him enormously, in the make room and around the place.

Thank you, Tone, for everything you've made here. We're so proud of it, and of you.

His cheese will be on our counter for a good while yet, so come in and taste it while it's here.

Just a heads-up for anyone planning a visit: our milk production is stopping at the end of October, so we will no longer be making cheese on the farm.

We will still be selling through our existing stock at the cafe for roughly 6 to 12 months, though soft cheeses will disappear first.

Down the track, we will likely source milk from another provider and bring in some cheese, but the cafe remains open for coffee, gelato, and platters.

G'day everyone,

I wanted to tell you this myself. It's been a pretty horrendous year for me. I spent a fair stint in hospital with Q fever, and I'm getting over it slowly, but the fatigue and the after-effects have forced a few decisions we're not totally happy about.

The big one is that at the end of October we'll stop milking, and that means no more bottled milk from our herd, to our resellers or in our own shop.

It's not something we've taken lightly. Dad started dairying here in 1966, and I've been milking these cows twice a day, seven days a week, for the 26 years since I came home to the farm. I'll miss the routine, and I'll really miss the cows. They're lovely animals to work with. But I've got to look after my health.

The farm shop and the café are staying open, so please keep coming in. Hopefully you'll see me around a bit more, and a bit less tired.

Thank you to everyone who has believed in us and our milk. Your feedback and kind words have always meant a lot.

Cheers,
Glen

We make our cheese by hand three to four days a week, turning milk from our own Holstein Friesian herd into the wedges you take home. The milk only travels metres from the dairy to the cheese room, so you are getting fresh farm produce on your platter. Whatever you are doing this weekend, Tone Petersen has your cheese covered. https://www.bassinespecialtycheeses.com.au/

Spring in Gippsland brings fresh pasture for our Holstein Friesian herd, and that whole, unstandardised milk goes straight into making our artisan cheese. If you are stocking up for the weekend, swing by the farm to grab cheese to go. You can even check out the production viewing window while you are here and enjoy a complimentary cheese tasting. https://www.bassinespecialtycheeses.com.au/
