This photo stopped me for a moment.

A mushroom grow kit beside a wild mushroom in the grass… both following the same invisible rules of nature.

It reminds me how little we actually control. Nature is complex beyond what we can fully understand — yet it all works together so perfectly.

The more I grow mushrooms, the more respect I have for the intelligence of the natural world. We’re not creating life here… we’re witnessing it 🍄✨

“One of the biggest mistakes when growing mushrooms at home… is waiting too long to harvest.

These oyster mushrooms are already overmature. See how the caps have flattened and curled upwards? That means they’re starting to release spores.

And while mushroom spores are natural, too many spores indoors can irritate your lungs — especially in small rooms with poor airflow.

The best time to harvest oyster mushrooms is before the caps flatten completely.
Better flavour. Better texture. Better air quality.

Growing mushrooms is simple… but timing matters.

After many years working in operations leadership across manufacturing and heavy industry, I’m passionate about creating stronger networks and opportunities for women in regional Queensland.
