You read that right! 🍄☕️ Specialty mushies from the Shroom Brothers and coffee grounds are certainly a match made in heaven!

Healthy mushrooms need a nutritious substrate to grow and thrive and so these certified organic beauties are grown on a substrate enriched with used organic coffee grounds from a local cold brew company, The Kind Coffee Co. ♻️

Not only does coffee provide valuable nutrients for growing mushrooms, but it also gives these used grounds a second life instead of sending them to landfill. How cool is that? 💚

We’re so excited to share this beautiful new book by Dr Alexandra Bernhardi, who is a local integrative medicine GP, author and long-time Good Harvest customer! 📚️💚

With a wealth of experience in preventative health and education, Dr Alex is keen to help our community understand the impact our everyday choices can have on how we feel and function.
​
She has a particular passion for children’s health and is the author of Charlie the Keen Kid: Raising Healthy Children Using Their Natural Curiosity, created to help kids understand the basics of holistic healthy living in a fun and accessible way 🦋

Dr Alex was inspired by the influence she observed children have on their families, believing that if kids could successfully encourage their parents to stop smoking, why not empower them to champion healthier habits at the dinner table too?

Every Friday for the past 4 years I’ve had my Good Harvest box delivered to my house. It’s the perfect set up: organic or spray free, local produce, delicious food, great choice where you can make your own selection online and limited waste as they collect the box and ice pack each week. They have always been very receptive to my very limited feedback on produce over the years and accommodated all my special requests. Couldn’t recommend Good Harvest enough!

Gourmet Mushrooms on Toast 🍄🥑

A delicious mix of specialty mushrooms, garlic, fresh herbs and spinach, served on toasted sourdough with creamy feta.

🍄 Ingredients:

Sourdough bread
Oyster, shiitake and lion’s mane mushrooms
Butter and olive oil
Garlic, thyme and fresh parsley
Spinach
Feta
Salt and pepper
Optional: balsamic glaze

🍄 Method

Melt butter in a pan and sauté minced garlic for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
Add the mushrooms and thyme, cooking for around 5 minutes until tender. Stir through the spinach until wilted, then season with salt and pepper.
Toast the sourdough until golden and drizzle with olive oil.
Pile the mushroom mixture onto the toast and finish with crumbled feta, fresh parsley and an optional drizzle of balsamic glaze.

Serving suggestion: Pairs beautifully with breakfast favourites like avocado, a poached egg or roasted cherry tomatoes.

WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE?

Recent independent testing of 13 popular fruits and vegetables purchased from Coles, Woolworths and Aldi supermarkets found some extremely troubling results.

⚠️ A single punnet of strawberries contained fungicide at nearly 10 times the legal limit.
⚠️ Two capsicum samples contained pesticide residues that violated maximum limits.
⚠️ Grapes were also found with pesticide residues exceeding maximum limits.

Even more concerning, eight pesticide residues were detected that did not appear to be registered or permitted for use on those crops ‼️

The scary thing is, only 78 fruit & vegetable samples were tested. How much more unauthorised and excessive pesticide use is happening that we just don’t know about yet?

This raises serious questions about illegal pesticide use and how effectively our food supply is being monitored.

When it comes to our food, trust matters.

We’ve been stocking these beauties from the awesome Shroom Brothers, who grow a range of certified organic specialty mushrooms in Northern NSW 🌿

🍄 Oyster mushrooms - a much-loved variety
🍄 Shiitake mushrooms - packed with flavour
🍄 Lion’s mane - a gourmet favourite
