Picking a few scapes today, nice to test out the scape picking machine. A lot easier on my back going down the rows.

Commissioning the irrigation pump and flushing out the main and submain lines, getting the system ready for the warmer months ahead.

Hopefully the forecast dry hot summer doesnt eventuate.

Spud planting finished for the season.

Bliss, Dutch Cream and Prince of Orange are all in the ground. At planting we applied phosphorus in-furrow along with EndoPrime and Multikraft biology to support early root development and crop establishment.

A big job ticked off. Hills to level Tuesday, then we’re done.

Cutting seed today. 8 months since harvest and stored without a coolroom.

Really pleased with the quality, firm seed, clean flesh, good colour and strong eyes. A good sign of how well these certified organic potatoes have stored naturally.

Italian Red harvest finished.

The harvester modifications worked pretty well for the first run, with a few more tweaks still to make. Garlic is now on the racks curing before cleaning and grading.

Few more Italian Reds out today, will be progressively done over the next 2 weeks. Size and quality much better than last season. Bulbs will be available in 3 or 4 weeks at Www.booraraorganics.com.au

Potato paddock fertiliser will be spread soon and seed will be cut a week out from planting. Really hard to get a good read on rainfall totals over the next 7 days for us.

Some Italian Red harvested today, on a weeding pass yesterday I noticed quite a few leaning over, after assessing bulbs this morning decision was made to pull some up.

Very selective harvesting, going through and pulling what was ready. Not a fan of doing this as its a lot more work but its the right move.

Will look again in a weeks time, very likely we will pull more out. Pretty happy with the first fresh garlic in the shed for the season.

Bit of everything happening around the farm at the moment. Getting the irrigation gear sorted, testing the harvester, shifting sprinkler pipe around and a bit of beef work thrown in as well.
Never seems to be just one job on the go here. Slowly getting through the list and getting things ready for the season ahead. 4 or 5 weeks until some Italian Red is harvested.

A bit of Saturday arvo weeding with the young bloke lending a hand.

The Italian Red is starting to look good, plenty of leaf area, good height and the bulbs are starting to size underneath. There’s a bit of yellowing in the older lower leaves, which is to be expected as the crop starts putting more into bulb fill.

The ground is still plenty wet, so for now it’s mostly about keeping the weeds down, looking after the roots and letting the crop do its thing.

Still a fair way to go, but it’s starting to look like a decent crop.
