Common Ground

Common Ground Plant the seed and spread the love. Getting a little tired of supermarket monopoly and poor quality produce? Anywhere. From there we will grow outwards.

Grow free food for and with our neighbors and community, start front yard community gardens for all to share and make friends over a garden bed. Farmers markets are a great option, but we can take this a step further by turning ALL vacant land, both at home and around the town, into a free food garden. We have become so dependent on others in order to eat, and stay alive, that when money becomes a

n issue we can actually starve - with all this land around us. So: https://www.facebook.com/commongroundalbany
Gardeners get together in communities and share your knowledge, let's teach how to grow and share food in schools as a seriously fun subject from year one up to the end of high school; incorporate this with the cooking classes. Let's create a healthy and health conscious community. Teach your children how to garden and they will eat vegetables. :)

We started with an old trailer at the car park entrance to 1849 Backpackers, filling it up with soil and planting it with seeds and seedlings. When they are ready, come by and pick what you need. If you have gardening knowledge, seeds, seedlings and cuttings to share, please do. Leave them in front yards, give them to your neighbors or to us and we will pass them on or plant them in passing. Food always used to be FREE, we have just let it get expensive.

“Farming is the world's greatest cause of environmental destruction - and the one we are least prepared to talk about. We criticise urban sprawl, but farming sprawls across thirty times as much land. We have ploughed, fenced and grazed great tracts of the planet, felling forests, killing wildlife, and poisoning rivers and oceans to feed ourselves. Yet millions still go hungry.

Now the food system itself is beginning to falter. But, as George Monbiot shows us in this brilliant, bracingly original new book, we can resolve the biggest of our dilemmas and feed the world without devouring the planet. Regenesis is a breathtaking vision of a new future for food and for humanity.”
