We had the pleasure of attending the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra's 90th Anniversary Gala Dinner as proud corporate partners of A*O.

For 90 years, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra has brought people together through the shared experience of music. We love how classical music continues to inspire, uplift and create moments of connection across generations.

We were also delighted to donate two Ditters gift hampers for the occasion. Congratulations to Rick and Barbara, the winners, who by happy coincidence were seated beside us on the evening. It was a pleasure to meet them and share in such a special celebration.

The evening was a wonderful reminder of the important role music, community and the arts continue to play in South Australia.

Congratulations to everyone at the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra on this remarkable milestone. We are grateful to have been part of the celebration and wish them every success for the years ahead.

Turns out South Australia’s History Festival gave us more than beautiful memories this year… it also gave owners Matt and Esther some unexpectedly romantic photos to celebrate 25 years of marriage together 💗

Over the festival, we loved welcoming visitors into our Adelaide Arcade store to share the story behind the Ditters Gourmet Cake, hear treasured family memories, and celebrate the traditions that connect so many South Australians to Ditters.

From childhood Christmas memories to discovering Ditters for the very first time, the stories shared throughout the event meant so much to us.

And between us… we think the History Festival may have accidentally organised an anniversary photoshoot too.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Ditters.

Today, we’re remembering Clara Magdalena Louise Remien — wife of Otto Ditter, grandmother, gardener, baker, and the quiet presence behind generations of family tradition.

Clara was known for her cinnamon streusel cake, her love of flowers, and the care she brought into her home and family life. Hydrangeas and camellias filled the table, violets were gathered into delicate posies, and recipes were passed lovingly through the generations.

Clara’s influence still lives on in the traditions and family spirit behind Ditters. Read more of her story on our website today.

Behind Ditters, there are generations of family stories shaped by mothers, and this one belongs to Clara Magdalena Louise Remien.

Born in Albany in 1894, Clara married Otto Ditter in Adelaide in 1916, just two years before Ditters began in 1918. While Otto’s name is well known, Clara’s story is one of quiet strength, care, and the small, meaningful details that shape a family.

To her grandchildren, she was simply “Nanny”.

She was remembered as a gentle, kind-hearted and compassionate woman, devoted to her family. She loved cooking for them, tending to her gardens, and caring for her dogs. Her cinnamon streusel cake was a particular favourite, often requested and fondly remembered.

Clara had a gift for bringing the garden indoors. Hydrangeas and camellias would be carefully arranged on the table, and when flowers were out of season, she would create displays from fern fronds and greenery. In spring, she would patiently gather violets from the garden to make delicate posies – small acts of care that filled the home with beauty.

That love of family, food and tradition carried through the generations. Her children each played a part in the Ditters story. Dawn, married to Gordon, helped create the recipe for the Gourmet Cake, while Joan, married to Bill, produced cakes at the Edwardstown factory. Even the flowers grown there were used to decorate the shop windows in Adelaide, continuing Clara’s instinct to bring warmth and life into every space.

This photograph, likely taken in the early 1940s, shows Otto, Clara, and their family together, perhaps during a rare time when everyone was home.

After Otto’s passing in the late 1960s, Clara later moved to St Georges, where she spent her final years.

Today, her story lives on in the details, in family recipes, in traditions passed down, and in the quiet influence behind a business built on care, quality, and family.

This Mother’s Day, we remember Clara, and all the mothers and grandmothers whose love shapes generations.
