“A Story From My Childhood to Arnhem Land”

Over the past 8 years, my brothers and I have worked hard to be innovative through our food and culture, always trying to be respectful and give back. This can be very challenging as an Aboriginal business, but the stories shared with me by my family are something I’m extremely proud of. I’ve tried to honour them through storytelling in our food and through Seven Seasons Spirits.

From being the first to supply Green Ants commercially, the first to sell Magpie Goose, the first to showcase our Larrakia Seasons, to teaching people about sustainable harvesting, Indigenous employment and building a true Indigenous supply chain, everything we’ve done has come from culture, connection and responsibility.

Our next step is to continue telling stories through a new range of whiskies. Four years ago, Steven and I sourced barrels and trialled four unique Indigenous flavours from the Top End something that had never been done before. This Tamarind release is the first of our single malt whiskies, a true Australian expression that will no doubt be replicated, but our stories come from a real and authentic place that can’t be copied, they represent our stories Growing up in Darwin & smells of the top end seasons that give up that sense of place.

Tamarind is a flavour that takes me back to childhood, growing up with my brother Shannon and our mates Dion and H***y Grant. Like the mango trees all over Darwin, tamarind grew right through the suburbs and along the coast. We didn’t have much money for lunch, so we’d buy a bit of salt or soy sauce, pick tamarind or mango straight from the tree, and sit together eating it.

Years later in Arnhem Land, family told us about the Maccassan trade between Aboriginal people and sailors from Sulawesi, the first people to come to Australia long before the English or Dutch. That connection between history, food and culture is something that has stayed with me.

So with this release, I wanted to teach and share this story through our 4 year Old Single Malt Tamarind Whisky. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you feel as proud of it as I do.
