State the important information up front
How annoyed will your online shopper be when he finds out that his postcode is not eligible for delivery, after he spent a full hour adding products to the cart? For retailers, it pays off to be clear and provide all the necessary information from the start. Buyers should be aware of shipping prices and times, delivery restrictions, geographical areas included in the service and special conditions before they have added a single item to their cart.
When it’s time to check out, make sure that all the steps are clearly labelled, and that shoppers know what’s coming up in the process. Consider adding lines that clarify where the customer is at, such as “You can still modify your order in the next step” or “By clicking here, you confirm your order and accept to pay. You won’t be able to modify your order afterwards”. Consider adding a progress bar that shows the various steps.
Once the order has been placed, include an “order completed” page where all the key information is summarized: items purchased, delivery and payment information, time of order, and what the customer should expect (an email? A call? A link to track the shipment?).

Before putting any vegetable in your cart, quickly check three things: weight, firmness, and skin condition.

If it feels lighter than it looks, it may already be losing moisture. If it feels soft in spots, it won’t last long at home. And if the skin has tiny cuts or bruises, it will spoil faster — even if the rest looks fine.

This is especially important for tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, and capsicum. They can look perfect under store lights but break down quickly in your fridge.

The best vegetables usually feel slightly heavier, firm, and smooth without damp surfaces.

Five extra seconds in the store can save you two days of frustration at home.

Be Prepared for Substitutions
There is always a risk that your store will be out of what you need when you go grocery shopping. However, shopping in person gives you the ability to find a substitution on the fly. With online ordering, you will want to specify what substitutions are acceptable; for example, will you be happy with button mushrooms if they are out of sh*take? Ground turkey instead of chicken? What about brands — maybe you adore one brand of ketchup but dislike the taste of the competitor. Most online ordering services will let you specify substitutions in a special setting or in the “notes” for each item.
Most of the services allow the person picking out your groceries to message you through the app. Pay attention to your phone in case they ask you about a preferred substitution or brand choice!

Compare the unit price of items
A unit price is the cost of an item per ounce, pound, quart or whatever other unit of measure the item goes by. This lets you compare the value of products to make sure you’re getting the best value. You can calculate the unit price by taking the total price of the item and dividing it by the quantity (how much of the item there is). So, if a bag of 10 oranges costs $4.00, the unit price is $0.40 per orange.
Generally, a lower unit price means you’re getting a better deal. However, under some circumstances you may also want to consider factors like brand quality and quantity vs. how much your household could reasonably consume before it spoils

BOOK YOUR DELIVERY SLOT AHEAD OF TIME
Booking yuor delivery slot ahead of time will allow you to stay organised, have a full range of options to choose from and potentially save money too. I usually book my next slot as soon as I have a delivery. In order to do this, you usually have to add something to your basket (which can be added to or amended later) and “check out”. Check with your specific grocery provider, but in my experience, they don’t actually take any more from your card until the “picking” stage, a few hours before the actual delivery.
Booking ahead of time this way avoids the nightmare that is, realising that you desperately need groceries and all of the slots are fully booked for day to come.

ORDER IN THE MORNING FOR SAME DAY DELIVERY
Like in-store shopping, the best time to shop online is early in the day. Most bulk grocery stores do a full restock of proteins, produce, and dairy after hours. So, shopping in the morning means you’ll have the best chance of getting all the items on your list. Another point is to add items to your online cart the evening before, then select the earliest delivery or pick-up slot the following morning.

That Spark of Joy
I’m talking about that feeling of being super organized. I get that spark with online grocery shopping. The way my shopping cart is organized as I fill it is right there on the side of my screen with everything so tidy and organized.
Then, when I arrive to pick up my groceries, the nicest people come out with everything organized according to frozen, refrigerated; cans together, produce carefully packed in separate bags, and so forth. I pop open the back door of my car, and everything is carefully loaded into the car. They hand me my receipt, and that’s it.
While stores now offer both delivery and pickup options, I opt for pickup. If my order is more than $35 in total, the pickup fee is waived.
