Plant your marigolds around your garden to keep the deer away! They stink and it is what we use to keep the deer out of our garden. We also use them to mark the rows. ✌️

🌧️ We are LOVING this rain!! 🙌💧

We are sitting at almost an inch of rain, and the gardens, crops, and grass are soaking up every single drop! 🌱🚜💚 There’s just something so peaceful and refreshing about a good rainy day. ☔️

🥶We did have to plug in and run some heating sources to baby those cut flowers some. Tonight should be the last night of having to heat the high tunnel. 🔥

🎉 On a side note, our summer help is back and ready to get this garden going! Welcome back, Camie!! We will be doing some work in the second high tunnel this week in preparations for getting the cut flowers in the ground! 💐

Thankful for the moisture and all the growth it brings! 🌦️✨

A good layer of straw can make a BIG difference in the garden! 🌻🥕🍅 Have you tried using straw mulch before? They sell what I use at CarQuest. It’s called EZ Straw.

Plastic is covering the second high tunnel!!

☀️ When the weather cooperates and things come together 💚 The second high tunnel got tarped this morning! There is a double layer with a blower fan inside. This helps insulate and adds extra protection.

🌈 The weather is finally looking up for our area! People ask me about when it’s safe to plant. As of yesterday, Wishek ground soil ranges from 43-45 degrees. It doesn’t look to be getting too cold at night anymore also. I think it’s safe to say we can plant things like potatoes (people have been planting these for weeks), pumpkins, watermelon, broccoli, lettuce and things of this nature. I would still proceed with caution with tomatoes but, if you cover them with a bucket at night, I think you’d be ok. ***update: it is supposed get to 30 degrees Saturday night. Proceed with caution!***

The garden is getting bigger since we are adding a second high tunnel. I need room for all of the green beans and beets 😂 ’

⚠️ We did a risky thing tonight ⚠️

🍅 We planted our 20 tomato plants in the high tunnel!

🍅 We are confident that the tarp will help for those STILL lower overnight temps. Monday and Tuesday night will be the big test. But 2-4 inches down, soil is 60-64 degrees. So, they should be happy there.

🍅 We have a wide variety of tomatoes this year!! All for eating a salsa making! Some are romas, purple Cherokee, early girl plus, celebrity plus — just to name some!!
