Long days. The beautiful days help keep the energy going.
It was a beautiful day to be born
It's a glorious time to be a cow
Finding an hour despite all of the needed work because "No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle."(Winston Churchill). Especially with my favorite horse.

Happy mother's day from snowy Westerlo
At least my puppy is enjoying the mud......
This is normally a dry field. Just give us a nice mix of sun and rain. Not one extreme or the other!

Leeks: seeded in the greenhouse in early February. Planted in the field in late April. Watered and weeded all summer to hopefully harvest in early November; almost a full year after germination. One of the manifestations of hope on a farm.
Happy Easter and Passover from our farm to you!
What do all of the holiday celebrations have in common, no matter what religion, race, location, type of holiday? FOOD. Food is a major part of all holidays. Say thank you to your local farmer by vowing to buy some of your food from them this year! If everyone bought even just a small amount of their food from their local farmer, smaller farms would dot the country again, instead of being 1% of the population as farmers are now. It's not sustainable for farmers to sell their products wholesale. It's difficult for farmers to spend the holidays with family. Livestock still need to be milked, fed, watered; greenhouses watered. Please help strengthen your local food supply by purchasing some of your food from your local farmer! Happy holidays! 🐣
You know your puppy is becoming a true farm dog when....she chooses a pile of manure for a pillow.
What a difference one day makes:
Starting to get the soil ready to plant

Did you know...world pesticide use has reached almost 6 billion pounds per year, with the U.S. accounting for more than 20% of that use? Organic can help reduce the use of agricultural chemicals. Organic farmers create an organic system plan for their farm. It outlines various method such as improved soil health, crop rotation, pest and disease resistant varieties, row covers, etc. which are used first to prevent or combat pests and disease. If these methods fall short, there are organically approved products that may be used. These products are naturally occurring substances such as essential oils, flower extracts, etc. They usually do not kill insects, but work instead to deter them. Beneficial insects or insects which are natural enemies then often move in to create a better balance when harmful insects are present in large numbers. A recent study reported that by eating mostly organic foods, study participants reduced urine pesticide levels by 90%!

You know you are looking at loyalty and love when after a 14 hour workday feeding livestock, watering greenhouses, planting, crises managing, repairing, and then feeding and watering all over again, alongside your dog, she is there waiting for you when you walk out of the barn into the dark after finishing your last chore.
Tough to finish the new fence when pup steals the gate handle and hides it in the snow
A little comic relief.....Cheyenne battling the buggy exhaust.
The twins are doing well after a rough start. Leia and Lynn, named after childhood friends of my family, are almost one week old.
What a beautiful day!
Did you know that the longer your food chain gets (the farther you get from the origin of your food source), the more unhealthy and environmentally unfriendly your food becomes? Stop in at the Peekskill Winter Farmer's Market tomorrow between 10 am and 2 pm. You won't find any high fructose corn syrup there or any hydrogenated palm oil, but you will find whole foods direct from the farm. You will find baked goods made with ingredients your grandma would recognize, seafood direct from the sea as well as crafts handmade from local artisans. Put your health first. Hope to see you tomorrow!! 🐔
One of my favorite all time photos. Looks like it could have been taken today right here.
Harvesting standing dead elm trees for firewood on Sunday before the storm. The forested areas of Eight Mile Creek Farm are just as important as the hay fields, vegetable fields and pastures both for what can be grown and harvested, as well as for wildlife and beauty. This spring we will be planting several varieties of native bushes and trees including various berries, currents, plum and hazelnut. These will provide food for both native birds and for customers. We are also planting a pollinators habitat for bees and butterflies. It will help these species, who will also help pollinate our veggies. No better time to plan for spring than during a snowstorm!

After lots of practice, Cheyenne had her first solo in the tractor today!
Available from the farm this week: crazy looking from the outside, these carrots are beautiful on the inside. Roast with olive oil and sea salt, they get even sweeter!
Fixed my blocked posts. I wondered where everybody had been! This is good to know. It's ridiculous to have 150 friends and only 25 are allowed to see my posts.
I ignored this post earlier because I didn’t think it worked. It WORKS!! I have a whole new news feed. I’m seeing posts from people I haven’t seen in years.
Here’s how to bypass the system FB now has in place that limits posts on your news feed. Their new algorithm chooses the same few people - about 25 - who will read your posts. Therefore, hold your finger down anywhere in this post and "copy" will pop up. Click "copy". Then go to your page, start a new post, and put your finger anywhere in the blank field. "Paste" will pop up and click "paste". This will bypass the system.
If you are reading this message, do me a favor and leave me a quick comment...a "hello," a sticker, whatever you want, so you will appear in my newsfeed‼️It WORKS!! I don’t know how many friends I have. I just want to see all of your posts that I have been missing and not getting!
