The ladies (and bull) always love rotation day! Milo on the other hand is very content to stay in the truck away from the big scary dogs.

What an incredible week! 🌾

From May 5th–7th, Family Farm Direct teamed up with the PA Beef Council, the FCCTC Culinary Program, and the CASD Cafeteria for Chambersburg Farm to School Week — and we couldn't be prouder of what came together at Career Tech and the Chambersburg Magnet School.

A few highlights we'll be talking about for a long time:

🥛 For the first time in 14 YEARS, we debuted our A2A2 whole milk. The students were the very first to taste it.

🥩 Our local dry-aged Angus beef and braised chuck roast hit the trays in three crowd-pleasing ways:

• Cheeseburger Penne Pasta
• Braised Chuck Roast Cuban Wrap

All prepped right in the kitchen by the talented FCCTC culinary students themselves.

A huge thank you to our partners and supporters who made this work possible — Department of Agriculture, Secretary Redding, Beef Council, and the Northeast Grant program. And to the FCCTC chefs, culinary students, and CASD cafeteria team — you made every plate happen.

Local Farms. Fresh Nutrition. Where It Matters Most. 💚

We felt like boot leggers taking whole milk to schools this week. Here is proof it was legal!

It's official: whole milk is BACK in schools 🥛

Today, USDA issued the final rule implementing the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act. Schools and child nutrition providers can now once again offer whole and reduced-fat (2%) milk options to help our children grow, learn, and thrive.

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Specialty Food Association Networking Night in Washington, DC!
It was a fantastic evening of connection, tasting, and conversation with leaders across the specialty food industry. I was excited to connect with major players including Nestlé, Whole Foods, Giant, and several other key buyers and brokers — along with many innovative new food startups bringing fresh ideas to the table.
These conversations highlighted exciting opportunities to grow local and specialty products. We look forward to future collaboration with these partners at the David W. Fletcher Incubator + Labs at Hagerstown Community College, where we can support food entrepreneurs, culinary startups, and product development right here in our region.
Grateful for the chance to represent Maryland agriculture and local food innovation on a bigger stage. The future of specialty foods looks bright when we connect big industry with emerging talent!
Who else attended the SFA Networking Night? Drop a comment if you'd like to connect or learn more about our work at the Fletcher Incubator.

🐮 Calf update! The little gray Smokey calf, which we had to teach how to nurse a few weeks ago, is doing great and growing like a w**d! He's still much smaller than the others, but he's beefing up nicely! The other calves are also loving this gorgeous evening and having a blast romping around!

Excited to share that I recently met with the Maryland Department of Agriculture to discuss rural health and nutrition!
I had the opportunity to have a discussion with Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks and the Agricultural Development Director (or Chief of Marketing & Agricultural Development). We talked about the critical connections between strong local farms, access to fresh, nutritious food, and the overall health of our rural communities here in Maryland.
From supporting small farms with better infrastructure to improving food security and nutrition in rural areas, it was a productive conversation on how agriculture can play a bigger role in building healthier, more resilient communities.
Grateful for their time and leadership on these important issues. Looking forward to continuing the work to strengthen Maryland's farms and rural families!
